Flat Spot in 3rd Gear

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Octavia vRS TFSI; currently running a stage 1 map with some supporting hardware.

I've noticed a slight hesitation of late; today under full throttle acceleration I noticed the car had a huge flat spot in 3rd, almost felt as though the turbo had un-bolted itself and gone walkies! This hesitation and flatness only occurs when the engine is hot.

I have replaced the following on it to date:

1) PCV

2) Rev D DV

3) Spark Plugs

4) N80 valve

Now the next piece of info; the car is on 115,000 miles on what appears to be the original clutch. A few weeks back I had clutch slip in 3rd gear. The clutch is noisy when released which makes me question: Are the hesitations and flat-spots I'm feeling actually clutch slip?

Any advice on what may be causing this issue is greatly appreciated.

Yep I would say it's slipping mate, time to spend lots of pennies ! ;)

Surely you would hear clutch slip, i.e. the revs would increase - but not necessarily speed

Right; got a code reader on the car............unfortunately had no paper to print the codes! There were 2 codes related to the Knock Sensor; and something about threshold (you can tell I'm really mechanically minded). Any pointers based on my vague information?
