Tablet and camera help needed.

Featured Replies

I have searched and searched and struggling to find an answer.

Im in need if a cheap tablet that I can download pictures to from my camera whilst on holiday and such like.

The reason I want to do this is I was away last week with the local scout group in the middle of nowhere with limited space, I took over 900 pictures and downloaded them onto computer when I got home and looked at them then deleted the memory cards.

Following day all pictures from trip were gone, I managed to get most of the pictures back using a recovery software on the memory cards but it did concern me that they may have all gone. Which leads me to the tablet.

To be used as a second scource of backup whilst away.  Here lies my problem I dont have a huge amount to spend £100 max.

Ive looked at the kindle fire and everyone seems to say no, looked at the Asus ME173X HD same answer.

But it appears that the Hudl can do this using a cable using a micro usb cable?

Are there any other options on the tablet front? I understand that some may work with a card reader?

But I would like to hear of others experiances and or expertise ;)

Thanks in advance for reading my long winded post.

Would suggest looking at review sites for recent articles. Should be able to get a decent quad core tablet for way under £100. Have even seen some 10" ones fpr around £100.

I have looked but they start getting technical and then im way way way out of my very limited knowledge

A lot of tablets won't accept external card readers. So watch out for that.

What about a netbook with built in card reader?

If it's specifically for backing up photos, look at a device Epson (and others) made a few years back that was essentially a mobile HD with small screen specifically for storing digital photographs. Sorry I can't recall what it was called.

I have a cheap archos 80 cobalt off eBay (cost me about £60) and do exactly wat you are trying to do. It runs android ICS and has a micro SD slot so I either use a micro card in my cameras with an SD adapter so I can plug the card straight in or use an mini usb otg lead and an external USB card reader. The advantage wit the latter is I can then use the on board micro SD card slot for additional storage and transfer straight from one card to another. The in-built android gallery app is fine for viewing photos but a bit clunky so I use quickpic to view photos.

You dont say what flash memory the camera uses; the Asus has a micro sd slot, as do a lot of other cheap tablets, the new version of the Asus is now out, it is a little more expensive (-( Argos are selling the old version for £99), but it has a stonkingly fast processor (although they havent changed much else).

The main issue you face is that none of the tablets offer huge internal memory, so if you are taking that many photos that a 32GB or 64GB card in your camera isnt enough, a tablet isnt going to be much use.

What I take away with me is a trusty old Asus EEEPC 901 with an upgraded SSD drive and a couple of 32GB SD cards for it.

They other issue is why the photos disappeared, are you sure you COPIED the files over, and didnt just view them on the PC??

Why not use an Internet cafe and upload to say Google drive?

If the tablet fails or is stolen, you won't get your pictures back
