Replacing shock absorbers

Featured Replies

But it might be Driving School, or Private  Driving Instructor,  or a Young Driver Training car.

Or just a one Lady Owners that covered some miles.

But if you do not ask, you never will be any the wiser.

It could be a company that has a fleet of them for their staff.

Local one that does at home care has a fleet of mini which they shift on at 2 years and the one I spoke to had 40k the she was driving that week.

To be honest, if you're unhappy, swap it.

Well, I am pretty ****ed off. I've just spoken with Skoda Customer Service. They are standing by the decision of Des Winks not to replace the other shock absorber, the ****ing cheapskates.

When I first spoke to the Customer Service rep, they said that they would take all issues into account, INCLUDING customer loyalty, and she then took the reg numbers of the FIVE Skodas I've bought in the last seven years.

I've just checked the price of the part - it's £48.31 including VAT. I might pay to get that done, but not at Des Winks!!

So the message is, customer loyalty counts for nothing any more with Skoda. :finger:

No but the Original might well fail not long after, often they do, and by then the vehicle can be out of Warranty.

So if the Dealership Does not have Permission to Approve a Matched Pair as replacement and ask the Warranty Approval,

the Customer asks the Manufacturers Warranty Manager them self,

& they put their reasons forward why they want the pair done,

or at least the Pair Supplied under Warranty from the Manufacturer, and you can pay a small percentage of the Labour for the fitting of the Second Part,

not 50 % though.

I am surprised that they will replace the shocker at all that they haven't wriggled out stating that it is a wear and tear item. Maybe you should count your blessings

I reported the problem the day after we got the car. Whether you consider it under the original manufacturers warranty, or the approved used warranty, it should be replaced either way.

It looks like its standard dealer practice to replace the one faulty shock if its under warranty for all dealers judging by mine & volvomegs comments & now skoda's,id just get the one replaced & enjoy your new car.  :D

Accountants eventually ruin every company.....

I didn't realise it was a used purchase.

I would think that you should easily be able to reject the car. Or could you agree with the dealer to fit two shocks as you wish and pay for the parts only to replace the extra one?

If you did reject the car it would cost the dealer more I expect, if the car is on finance or some(£100 or more) paid on credit card then they too are equally liable so worth speaking to them as they may carry more clout than a customer.

Not sure what to do, tbh. If we reject it, we've only got to find a replacement from somewhere.

Still 42k, checked and they missed that!

So did you ask if they'll do the damper at cost & a deal on the fitment?

No, because it never occurred to me that SUK would allow such silliness. That might be my next option.

As and when it suits. If you were out of warranty they would be adamant that both needed changed at the same time

If you only wanted one changing they'd probably as you to sign a disclaimer!

Some good news. The dealer who sold me the car, DM Keith in Leeds, has agreed that both shocks need to be replaced due to mileage and has agreed to do both foc.

After all I've said about DM Keith in the past, fair play to them.

But as for Skoda UK and Des Winks

I like to be balanced and speak as I find - and in that spirit here's another update.

I had a call from the MD at Des Winks. We had a good long chat. He offered to replace both shock absorbers as well. I thanked him for his gesture but explained that we had already arranged to replace both at Leeds.

All in all, I will be happy to give them another go at servicing, especially in light of the comments made by The Plumber in the Dealer thread. I'll update there as well.

Purely from a warranty perspective, I would have only done 1 but would have offered you a cracker of a deal on #2.
