'picked up a Roomster today from a place in Warwick. http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/324448-got-a-roomster-because-if-it-does-the-job-i-dont-care-about-looks/

   Roomster 2008 1.4 Diesel

Would you believe it?  On the drive having a play and the darned thing locked itself with the one and only key in the ignition!  Guess I have the door lock micro-switch problem that a few others have suffered.  30 seconds after unlocking, the doors lock whether the door has been opened or no.

With a little luck it will be covered by the dealers 6month warranty.  'bit concerned about the small print regarding faults caused by normal wear and tear for the year.

The relock in 30 seconds isn't a fault, thats how its worked on every VAG I've ever had. Its not very helpful now, but you shouldn't buy without a second key as you don't know who has the other one. Only two can be coded to the car, so if you have both, you know noone else does.

Didn't realize spare keys were that expensive for Skodas.

Must be worth ringing around though as prices can vary. Bought a 60 reg Yaris last year with only 1 key, various toyota dealerships in the area quoted for it and the range was from £210 down to £80. What they did when cutting and programming the replacement was change the coding on both keys, so that if by chance the lost key was tried, it wouldn't be able to start the car. But for the downside of having only 1 key I got £200 off to compensate for loss in value.

I think for the price (if no substantial discount was negotiated) the dealer should have had a second key cut and programmed.

My 57 plate 1.9TDI cost 4300 in early 2012, with 55k on the clock.

Huskoda. So that I've got it straight.

Opening the door after unlocking using the remote, does not prevent auto-relock on the Roomster?

I've got a basic key arriving tomorrow from Timpsons and will order a full coded one ASAP.

Thats how it was on my Passat, Octavia and Polo. Unless you turned the key to at least the first position, it would relock within 30 seconds of closing the doors.

Thanks for clearing that up. 'teach me for being a tart and looking at the Octavia pages.

I might look into taming Autolock and Safe Secure. There's got to be some parameters for them on the ECU that those with the laptop can tweak.

Actually this is how it should work, and the reason why you got locked out is exactly as you stated, failure of door microswitch, which also used to happen on the Mk1 Octavia and a lot of other cars. On an alarmed car microswitch failure was even more embarassing as not only the doors would lock with you in the car, but the alarm would promptly go off as well.

My cars used to be kept for weeks in the garage without locking themselves, and often after I locked them by mistake, then unlocked+opened then closed driver door.

The 30 second relock only happens if key was pressed then for 30s+ no doors have been opened (or a door with faulty microswitch has been opened). I think the OP has had enough stress already, let's not frustrate him with misleading information.

You are correct, though, in that turning the key in ignition to 1st position or futher will prevent doors locking even if the microswitch is failed.

Im just saying how it was in my experience. All three may have had faulty switches.

To clarify.

If the door is unlocked with the key in the lock in the old fashioned way and opened, the alarm will sound unless the key is put into the ignition.

True only if the microswitch is broken. If the microswitch in the door works, all that is required to unlock the car and disable alarm permanently (well, until you relock the car) is to press the unlock button on the key fob, and then open any door with a working microswitch (you can then close that door, it makes no difference, at least until "lock" button is pressed).

My RIP Mk1 Octy had a broken microswitch in driver's door. I'd open the car, sit in it looking at the map, then suddenly I'd hear the alarm going off. Only after I noticed that the "door open" symbol does not light on the dash anymore when driver door is opened, I managed to figure out it was the microswitch.

Thanks for all of your comments. I understand what's meant to happen now.

It seems my drivers door-open micro switch is intermittent. So I doubt I'll be able to use the dealers warranty. I'm making do with a long key chain so I can't leave it in the motor.

I went back to the second hand car dealer with the Roomster, hoping to establish whether the relock issue was covered by the warranty.

Unfortunately it didn't go well; not even reputation protection words of sympathy.  But he did give me the number of the Motor Codes Self-regulatory body so that I could review the T&C of the standard warranty.

They were helpful.  Suggesting that it was more of a sale-of-goods complaint than warranty and included some pro-forma letters.

I sent the first letter, recorded-delivery as pdf attached.  And got a hand written reply on a slip of paper asking me to take it to a Skoda garage for repair which he will "approve".

It's booked in for next week.  'let you know how it goes.

My locks are now behaving themselves.  The local Skoda dealer did the work for about £360 and the second hand car dealer paid the bill.

Glad you've had it sorted out. Enjoy the Roomie! :D

The Skodas I have had and the present one do not relock after you have unlocked the vehicle and opened then closed a door (any door). If the car relocks then it is a fault.

So.

Unlock

Open door

Close door

Car unlocked until manually locked again.

So.

Unlock

Open door

Close door

That's how both ours work.

Will add:

Unlock

DON'T open any door or booth

Car auto locks after 30 seconds
