Polishing Technique...

Featured Replies

Good Morning.

In the spring when I gave my car its 6 monthly detail I had awful trouble with the polish drying out before I could work it in.

I'm using a Megs DA with AF Tough Prep as the polish (followed up with a coat of AF Tough Coat as the LSP.)

I have since learned that I should `spritz` the pad occasionally to keep it moist. I intend to do that in the autumn.

But, what to use as the `spritzing` agent...I have BSD, I have VP Citrus Bling and I have distilled water.

What would you suggest I use?

Many thanks.

Mike.

I use just water out of the tap :)

...and with  DA you MUST work small areas eg 12" squares, and never work on hot panels or in the sun. Also need to check how much polish you are using? Different polishes have different lubricants in them and what might be just the right amount of product for one polish could be far too much (or little) for another. Keep experimenting...

Thank you.

I never work on hot panels and try not to work in the sun (a bit difficult being as I live near Skeg! :sun: ).

But its the little 12x12 areas I find most of a pain. I try to stick to this but with the inevitable `fling` of polish onto a previously polished section, which then has to be dealt with a second time...I tend to up the area. Wrong I know!

Mike.

Filtered water is fine.

As for firing the polish all over the car.... less is more, you only need around 3 pea size blobs of polish on the pad.

To answer the original question.

Your citrus bling diluted somewhere around 1-5 up to 1-10 with water should be fine.

Very versatile product, will suit working with AF tough prep as CB also has a light paint cleansing action.

..but to complicate things, just be careful not to spritz too much as that just makes the fling even worse.

Good technique for some polishes is to 'kiss' the pad to the paint over the area to be worked so you leave light dabs of polish evenly around the work area (before you switch it on and start working). You can then 'pick them up' as you go and it avoids the problem of the initial contact of pad and large amount of polish.
