H3 Main Beam LED Lights

Featured Replies

Having recently replaced my DRL's and Sidelights with Cree LED's I though I would also upgrade my halogen H3 main beam lights. I have not had any canbus errors with any of the other led's that I fitted and I found some rather expensive Cree H3 bulbs on Hid direct which said they were canbus compatible for £30.

I ordered these and fitted them but unfortunately they have produced a canbus error message. I phoned hid direct and their only solution was to return them for a full refund or fit resistors. I have now ordered a second set of cheap H3 bulbs from ebay to try these and see if they make any difference but on trying them they don't even light up? Any idea why this might happen?

So the reason for this post is has anybody fitted a set of H3 bulbs which have not produced the canbus error message?

Or if not has anybody fitted resistors and how have you fitted them?

Many Thanks

I'd be interested in any H3 upgrades as well, LED or not, as when I started looking at the Superb the DRL's were below the main lights and an easy LED upgrade. When I got mine a month ago the DRL's are now the main beam H3 bulb running on a lower power and so not so easy to change to a brighter DRL!

Just wondering if any of the Philips or Osram upgrades would give a whiter look to the DRL's as well as improving the main beam?

It is difficult to tell which Superb the OP has here, it looks to me like a MkI Octavia vRS!?

However, reading between the lines I suspect the issue here is as Fishcann suggests.

If the OP's Superb is a low to mid range specification facelift then the DRL's are in the main headlights and are incandescent bulbs, not LED. The issue with fitting LED's is that the bulb as originally fitted is dual-purpose, dim for DRL, bright for main beam. I think this will be causing issues with the CANBUS when retrofitting LED's?

As with all recent Skoda manuals for some reason they have decided it wise to remove all of the bulb types, so the only way to know for sure is to remove the old one first. Thanks Skoda.

My superb is an 11 plate 3.6 estate elegance with bi-xenon headlights.

Having only recently bought it and still having my old vRS I have not updated my signature.

Would something like h3 Phillips bright white bulbs be okay as they are not led's?

My h3 main beams are seperate bulbs which are only used as main beam.

Replaced yesterday on our SuperB H3 bulbs, but with Osram CoolBlue Intense (4300), from experience on other cars and testing manny bulbs with Phillips ones, I can tell you, go for Osram, with no question about it...;)

If you want quality, then for sure choose Osram rather then Phillips (for all bulbs in cars).

Okay thanks for that I am guessing that you have not had a canbus error with your new bulbs?

With H3 Osram CoolBlue Intense?

NO, NO errors
