Downpipe and Sports Cat Advice Please

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

I'm looking at getting a down pipe and sports cat for my Mk1 Octy Vrs as looking to go to stage 2 map shortly. I currently have a Jetex cat back system with standard down pipe and cat.

I read that these now need to be "type approved" to be legal on the road. I don't want to be messing around swapping exhausts round at mot time

Could anyone point me in the right direction for a decent down pipe and sports cat that would marry up with my cat back system that is also legal

And advice much appreciated

Thanks

I use a jetex 200 cel sports cat on mine never failed yet

Yeah saw that on Demon Tweeks but it states "This cat is not E-marked (Type Approved). It should only be used for track or off road use."

But of you've not had any issues then sounds good to me. Thanks for the help mate

Mine came from venom motorsports and they never said it was a motorsport only application but yeah it's gone through two mot's now

Just out of interest, what kind of power increase is to be expected fitting a sports cat downpipe and aftermarket system or does it simply improve a remap?

I wouldn't know to be honest mate. I know when I fitted a decay system to my Celica vvti it didn't make a lot of difference besides a huge racket lol :) I'd say probably a couple of BHP if you're lucky. I'm after one as required for stage 2 map

It's less restrictive as it is now 2.5 inch so it's flowing better so will get a small gain nothing massive

Don't worry about the "type approved"  that is to try and make people buy expensive ones.

As long as your sports cat is a "cell 200" it will pass a MOT.

Some sports cats(but not many now) are cell 100 which can be a problem passing emissions.

You will see more power with a Sports cat because the std Down pipe is very restrictive and is not built for efficient exhaust gases removal. Couple that to a not as good cat (think std are around cell 400-600) you will get a quicker turbo spool up.

Replacing the downpipe and cat is better increase than replacing the exhaust system for sure.

There are better gains when car is mapped as you can then benefit from maximum boost, fuel/air and timing with the exhaust already fitted.
