Lowering a fabia VRS

Featured Replies

Hi all,

This is my first post on here but have been reading forums for a while and found some very useful info.

I have my 07 fabia vrs SE sat on ST coilovers at the moment and have a few questions I would much appreciate any advice/info available.

1) I'm only wound about half way down on the front - I'm finding I'm scraping a fair bit on speed bumps and fast inclines eg. Driveways, or country lanes due to the ridiculously low sump tray. How do people get round this problem as I have seen some mega low fabias on here and driving around. How much room is there to play with between the sump tray and the sump? Is it worth removing the tray to wind down a few more turns to get it as low as I would ideally like to?

2) on the rear - I'm wound all the way down but it still doesn't seem to be as low as it should, would this have anything to do with me using the standard bump stops? It seems to me that it should be much lower wound all the way down than it is at the moment?

Many thank in advance :)

Mines currently this low on the front but im not running an undertray but it is going back on soon

And i have about 3 threads left on the bottom of my AP's and im wound all the way down on the back but it sits like this

The fronts probably a little to low at moment as im catching on road, the back needs the rear adjusters taking out and i think that will be ok. I would look at removing rear adjusters on yours if you want it lower

Thanks for the reply Sam!

How much clearance is there roughly between the under tray and the sump? Yours is sat how I would like mine on the front I guess it's not advisable to remove the undertray to sit that low then?

I hear removing the rear adjusters can cause problems like popping a shock? I guess the only way to get lower on the rear is to remove the adjusters I wasn't sure if I may of been sitting on the bump stops as some people say to cut them down? Mine looks around the same as yours on the rear it would be nice to sit her a little lower on the rear.

Cheers

Not sure at moment as my undertray is sat in the garage after I took it off, the coilovers only got fitted at weekend so im still messing about with them, currently I can just about get my finger between the tyre and the top of the arch. Im not sure about the popping shock either but I did a search on here and found that many people with AP's recommend taking out the rear adjusters to get them sitting at the right level.

Definitely take your undertray off mate. Once I took mine off it was so much nicer to live with! People have seemingly reported a reduction in MPG due to the tray providing a decrease in the car's drag coefficient. However, in reality I've not noticed any change!

Mine used to scrape on even the smallest bump. It literally drove me nuts!

As for the adjustability, as above really - AP coilovers are known for not allowing you to go ultra low on the rear, and as a result lots of people have run without adjusters. Not sure about ST's though. If you're worried about the spring popping out, then just make sure you don't take off over any bridges and you should be fine ;)

Good to hear that you've got some half decent coilovers instead of the cheap option that most people seem to take at first (myself included!).

Oh and welcome to the forum :) !

After seeing them pictures, I'm definitely going to take the rear adjusters out and the undertray off. Currently sitting the fronts on 12 threads from the bottom. I also have JOM drop links which clunk like mad, will the clunking stop if I go lower? Or is something I'm just going to have to put up with? (I have AP coilovers too)

Its probably the drop links change em for adjustables or mondeo versions

I'll get some adjustable ones ordered. I knew I should have bought them rather than the fixed length shorter ones!

Thanks for all the advice guys!

Next time I have the car jacked up I will remove the undertray. I'm scraping over most things at the moment which is really irritating and I don't seem to be that low compared to a lot of fabias I've seen (not that I want to be ridiculously slammed). Does anyone have any recommendations for adjustable drop links? I seem to have a noticeable nocking which I can only put down to the passenger side drop link after changing my nackerd CV joint last weekend. It only seems to occur on uneven surfaces at low speeds.

Many thanks again!

the signs are pointing towards drop links as mine only does it when you hit a fairly reasonable bump/uneven surface. I think its the top of the drop link hitting the inner arch of the car as mine has nice gouge marks on it now!

Thanks for the advice  :D  :D  :D  I'm currently still on standard drop links so will get these changed to some adjustable ones ASAP and hopefully that will solve the knocking issue!
