No ;) think of all the performance cars that use DSG systems :) M3 with DCT

GT-R too :)

Hmmm saying that my boss had an m3 with dct and sold it as it was boring 'apparently'

I think im going to enjoy being bored. Gears and rattly flywheels are over-rated :)

You'll enjoy it in the snow ;) a rear wheel drive automatic BMW! We had one that would start to go rather easily in snow that wasn't helped by the Auto system however I guess it's far more advanced now

Nah. They arent like they used to be.

Good if you do alot of miles too.

Thats why i bought it to be fair.

Considering a new job which does include a 60 mile commute and i would just get annoyed creeping along in 1st gear.

Especially since my manual has an annoying shuddering flywheel thats about to die. Just aswell the garage didnt road test my trade in :)

Youll love it.

Dad went through years of manuals when he was working. Eventually got fed up of pressing the clutch in traffic all the time. Went to a DSG and loved it. Wished he'd had one before

You won't want to go back to manual that's all I can say...

I thought the same but now have a manual and have no regrets

Yeah its my old boy and brother have auto's and all they do is yarn on about how awesome they are.

I do drive their cars now and again so when i get into mine it feels like a chore

I am looking forward to it. Will be my first auto

What car is it?

I love the push and go kind of feel about an auto. I find them far more enjoyable to drive than a manual gearbox.

It's all personal preference at the end of the day.

Me too, I came from an auto BMW (E46).

What car is it?

Essentially the same car i have at the minute (320d bmw)

But i've went from manual to auto, more than halfed the odometer (90k to 40k) and went up a spec from an ES model to an SE. So now i get cruise control / steering controls / dual a/c / parking sensors / anti-dazzle mirrors / ambient lighting touches. Just a nicer place to be really

:)

Ah nice one. Nice cars :).

Cruise control to? Christ. Youre only left turning the steering wheel! Haha.

Fast lane on motorway mate. Zero lane changes / steering wheel input required on a bmw ;)

Its got magnets in the bumper too to help with tailgaiting

You've maybe yet to discover the wonder that is hitting the cruise resume button from about 30mph... zoooom!

I sometimes feel like that... cruise control on, climate set to 20c, auto lights, auto wipers and auto dimming mirror.

Imagine a newer model with lane assist and radar guided cruise control too.

Yeah! Was really surprised when dad showed me what happens when you set the cruise at 80mph, as you come onto a slip road going about 30 or 40. It proper floors it and redlines in every gear doesnt it lol.

Hmm i know what you mean. Of course you could turn everything into manual. But meh. If its auto wipers etc etc, you might aswel use em right haha.

It's weird in the DSG. It doesn't seem to rev right out in my car but changes gear with the power still on. It feels like when you're shifting in manual mode.

Just never hit it unintentionally... it really scares you until you realise what's happening!

Phil

I dont think you'll get the quick accelerarion in a 320d. Better at miles per gallon than smiles per gallon.

:)

I'll try it for a laugh though. See what happens

I imagine if you pressed it on a slip road in a 335d, youd soon be hitting the brakes before the first lane.

The old problem of going to bloody fast to get on the motorway lol.

My old boy has a 335d and it is unbelievable. I tried sport mode in it once and i was like woah thats enough

0mph to a straight ban in 0.1 of a second

Never been in one myself. My neighbour used to have one but he never took me out in it.

I imagine itd be torque central though.

They are pretty phenomenal things

If money were no object i would pick a 335/435d xdrive (one of the new ones as i believe they upped the power from 280-300+bhp or there abouts)

Sounds like plenty!

I keep seeing 'x-drive' on bmw's, but what exactly is it?
