Emissions fail

Featured Replies

Daughter had massive MOT fail on all but one emissions check on her 55 plate ,120K Laguna 2.0l. Tester suggested Lambda sensor fail .Any other suggestions.

Not car specific but Brother had an emmisions fail on his 1.6 petrol a3.

Lambda was the reason, but it knackered the cat.

The lambda called for more fuel. The car ran rich and blocked and knackered the catalytic converter.

Unfortunately. It did cost £500 to have the cat and lambda replaced.

Might be irrelevant, but might be worth bearing in mind.

Dose she drive it conservatively in town most of the time? SWMBOs 116i failed it's first MOT on emissions brought on through short journeys. Just needed a good thrashing.

@Aspman

SWMBO or the car!

That would be an ecumenical question e918d94a1475b42d34bd03eac4f0d6fe_48.jpg

WHat question? Trashing for both and both will run sweet as a whistle ;)

A copy of the test result would help.

Give it a good high rev run. My collogues' (wifes) car ran like ****e, failed emissions too. Took it for a spin on some back roads at 3500+ rpm, came back purring like kitten. Passed emissions two days later with flying colours. 2004 Corolla 1.6, ~60k miles.

That could be why none of mine have had any emissions issues then ;)

My BMW failed on emissions. Thrashed it about for a couple of days then passed no issues. It did need a new maf sensor bit still passed!

Same here. My last car had a dodgy accelerator. MOT bloke said the pedal felt like it could stick any second. I asked him why that was a problem, the pedal is glued to the carpet anyway. He wasnt amused and failed me on the removed shifter lock. Just to be a jerk. No jokes from now on haha.

Mine is stuck ;) it's only a 1.2 anyway so it's foot to the floor then look at the speedo and realise that flat out you're only doing 75 ;)!

It's just had a long run ( and from what I know,/suspect  it'd be "making good progress"), as she's no little slow lady.

Mine is the opposite. I'm just enjoying the drive, cruising on the motorway at what i think is 65-ish, then I look down at the speedo and see that I'm doing a 100. You don't feel the speed you're doing.

Replaced/updated the entire suspension, news bushes everywhere, new engine/tranny mounts, added soundproofing and bought new tires a while back. Took her down to Germany last week, and i was hitting the limiter. Felt like 115 at best.

Problem solved. She's given it beans over the last week to find petrol smell out of exhaust has gone, car runs better and consumption is up . It's now passed on emissions.
