Very Occasional Loss of Power

Featured Replies

Over the last 2 years my TDI has suffered twice with sudden loss of power, which has been cured by turning off and on the ignition,

The first time it did this, I took the car out for a bit of a Italian Tune (hard driving), and  had no very issues for about a year until yesterday.

Could the above be overboost and what causes this on a very occasional basis

Thanks

I had the same issue few weeks ago in my fabia vrs took it for a drive had to accelerate hard up a steep hill not far off 4.5k revs then got to top of hill changed into 6th ten boom lost all lower :-( sounded like the turbo was still spooling it was just biblically slow pulled over tuned it off and on and voila it's been fine since :-/ I'm at a loss as to what it was :-;

Sticking turbo vanes is the usual suspect. ECU goes into limp mode, & recycling the iginition pulls it out.

I presume that as it has only gone into limp twice in the last 2 years, it is something to monitor for the time being and do an Italian tune every so often.

Would a terraclean be worth doing or would it not go as far as the veins ??

Mr Muscle oven cleaner is the usual fix for stuck turbo vanes,

Sticking turbo vanes usually cause an overboost fault code so getting a VCDS diagnostic done would be a wise move.

No fault codes recorded.

Did you use VCDS or a generic reader?
