crd2 box and MOT... remove it or leave it

Featured Replies

My mk2 octy vrs tdi dsg 2011 has installed crd2 BOX from dtuk and it's going for MOT tomorrow morning. Do i have to remove box or plug in bypass instead? I haven't change settings in the box so there is no smoke from the exhaust and no warning lights on the dash. I am just worried because i will be at work and my wife is going to take car for MOT and she may not be able to solve the problem while visiting kwik fit... Any suggestions?

Cheers

Normally I would say that if the exhaust smoke/soot situation is under control then there shouldn't be any problems regarding funny boxes in the engine compartment.

However, it is KF you are dealing with...

As far as I know you aren't breaking any law(s) with the tuning box provided you have declared it to your insurer.

If the emissions test passes then you're fine, make sure it gets a good rasp before testing to blow out built up carbon deposits in the exhaust system.

Hmmm. Thanks MicMac

I bet you come out with advisories from brakes and tyres, typical KF. I'd never let them near a car of mine after a bad experience in the past, confirmed recently on here where a Brisky members wheel fell off 2 miles after KF changed the tyre.

Tuning box should be ok though if the car does not smoke excessively, there is no actual test of the emissions on the diesel just smoke test. Check your oil level before the test, as during the test the engine is revved to maximum RPM and held there for a short time as part of the smoke test.

Yeah. Test hasn't been done due to low emissions. Just rear arm suspension mounting rubber needs attention. Without doubt car passed mot.

Thanks for your help...
