Satnav units?!?!?

Featured Replies

Right i am looking at getting rid of the standard 'stream' head unit in my 08 Oct and have seen some units on ebay for like £200

I am not overly bothered about the fancy pants parts and what not just something that does the nav and the display for the seats and fans and aircon and the like and NAV :)

Any one had one of the cheaper units from eBay?

Anygood?

which ones are the ones to avoid?

I dont want something thats going to take ages to set up and it hard to use just a nice simple setup :)

Thanks in advance

Paul

If you're looking at the cheap chinese units I would avoid.

You could look at an Amundsen or Columbus (OEM). You would lose the climate and PDC display though.

I live in York so if you ever want to check out a Columbus give me a shout.

I've retrofitted one to my MY08 car and also Maxidot.

I already have used the columbus ones before i used to have a VW which had that in :)

just them seem a bit out of my price range!

I already have the maxidot in mine will that help?

Ah fair dos.

If you have the Maxidot the Columbus integrates with it so you get nav instructions on the Maxidot and also have the little compass displayed on the top all the time.

That would be sweet!

need one in the price range of next to nothing!! lol

Also i am missing the ipod in the car at the min!!

I nearly chickened out of buying the Columbus but decided it was worth the extra over cheaper units. Very pleased with it.

I don't bother with my iPod in the car anymore. I just stick all my music on the SD card.

I still have my Aux-in under the arm rest though.

You can also fit an MDI box to the Columbus and plug the ipod in to control from the headunit.

You can also fit a bluetooth module in the future should you wish which can be controlled from the headunit and also show in maxidot.

its a vrs ex skoda demo car pics in the newbie bit lol ;)

what sort of things xan be done?

Just had a look. Very nice.

You're lucky that it's been specced up a bit.

Looks like it has the the rain/light sensor too?

You can do:

Extra maxidot settings

Coming home/leaving home lights (if you have the light sensor)

Adjust when headlamp washers go off

Rain closing windows - windows close if the car is locked and it starts to rain (if you have the rain sensor)

Enable 2nd rear fog light

Cornering front fog lights

DRLs

Teardrop wipe of front and rear windscreen

There's probably a few others I'm forgetting about too.

Yeah it's got the rain sensors and the light sensors for headlights when it gets dark :)

What other maxidot settings is there?

Would love to know what else there is!

How much would you want a few cheeky beers lol?

Basically once you've enabled some of the options on the car (light coming home lights) they then appear in Maxidot to turn them on and off and adjust timings etc.

I can't really remember what else as I fitted my own Maxidot and all the options were there from the start.

I never expect anything for it as I'm happy to help. People have given me cider in the past... which makes me happy.
