Anti-stutter valve

Featured Replies

Hi,

while driving home in my 2003 octavia 1.9 TDI estate I heard a faint hissing/spluttering noise coming from the engine.A short while later the engine 'ran away' for about 15 seconds

I had the car recovered to home and have started to clean the intercooler pipes. EGR etc. When I removed the Anti-stutter valve, I found one of the pipes had worn through where it clips to the bulkhead and had a big hole in it. My question is, could this have caused the engine to redline and runaway ?

Cheers

Pete

Anti shudder valve aids smooth shut down & also should stop turbo runaway. It's vacuum operated so with a holed pipe it wouldn't have operated.

Thanks, I wasn't sure how it arrested a runaway, I assume it stops the runaway when you take the key out. It just seemed a coincidence that the runaway followed the hissing sound, this sound must have been the turbo. Thanks again
