Did I put the wrong oil filter in our 2.0 TDI CR Octavia?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I often have a browse on here, and have found lots of useful info in the past, it's a great forum. Hoping someone can point me in the right direction here.

I changed the oil and filter on my wifes Octavia this evening, but I only noticed as I tidyied up afterwards that the filter element that I removed is longer than the one that I installed (old one would't fit in the box the new one came in!).

I got the filter from a Skoda dealer, but I've checked and the part number on the box (03P 115 562) does not match whats on the invoice (S03L 115 562). When I google  03P 115 562 I find references to 1.2 TDI Roomsters and Fabias, but not the Octavia.

The one I put in "clicked" into the element housing ok, and the diameter seemed fine, so I guess the only potential problem is that as it's too short it could work free and drop down to the bottom of the housing. Anyone have any ideas if this is likely to happen, and would it cause issues?

I'll go back to the dealer next week and get the correct one from them, but we need to do a long trip of approx 300 miles return over the weekend - should I open it up again and put the old one back in first?

Appreciate any thoughts!

Regards,

John

A real dilemma!  I'd do it for peace of mind, if the old one was still nice and clean (apart from any oil of course).

Id put the old one back in,its always good practice to compare old & new filters before you fit the new one. (you know this now)  :D

Cheers guys, yeah, I know to check them in future!

Thanks for the advice, rather than stick the old one in I picked up the proper one in a motor factors this morning and stuck that in. I'll keep the replacement which the dealers should give me next week for the next service.

Peace of mind is a big thing!

Ta

John
