How much to service a rapid over 3 years?

Featured Replies

Does anyone have a rough idea how much it would cost to service a new rapid over first 3 years to cover warranty?

The reason I ask is that I'm looking to buy a new rapid and the dealerships are offering 3 years free servicing if I get their zero percent finance. However I can get a lot more discount if I buy in cash from one if the online dealers but will lose the 3 years free servicing. I'm trying to work out if it would be cheaper to buy online and just pay for servicing over the 3 years.

Any advice would be appreciated - how many times would I need to service the car during the first 3 years to keep warranty valid and roughly how much do skoda charge for these?

How many miles are you going to cover, annually?

because if the car is on Variable Servicing which you could have, then you might not be wanting 3 services.

If you are going to keep it more than 3 years or even not, i would look at buying the extra 2 years for a 5 Year Warranty at time of purchase.

It'll be on the fixed service regime the equivelent of 2 minor and 1 major service so IIRC 2 x 139 plus 1x 249.... ish. It's a well trodden path and youmight even be able to secure both as it's VW finance giving you the free service, not the dealer. Also check out when you can pay the finance off in full too as that's what manydo.

Thanks of the advice. Max 10,000 miles a year and probably looking to keep the car for 3-4 years. I'm really tempted by the dealership offer of zero percent finance and 3 years free servicing plus they are offering £2k off list price. But on drivethedeal they are offering a huge discount on a rapid sport - I can't decide which one to go for. Does anyone have experience of using drivethedeal?

The 0% and a good discount sounds a very good offer, however it's only matching the current Skoda UK incentives, whereas the current dtd price does seem crazy to ignore. Not used dtd directly but know some people who have without issue.

Servicing wise then this may be of interest;

As I see it it makes sense to buy through a broker.

As an example if you can pay cash a new Rapid Sport bought via Carfile.net (online broker) £11972 OTR full retail price via dealer £15630 OTR.

Even with a dealer discounted £2k that leaves a difference £1658 on the above broker price. It's never going to be anywhere near that figure for servicing over 3 years, let's say you pay out  £600 ish for that your still around £1k better off with the broker.

The only advantage with the dealer is the 0% finance if you want to spread the cost, but the way I looked at it keeping you money in the bank that extra 1-2-3 years isn't going to gain you much interest. So do the maths and save a little.

Incidently I bought my Citigo  via Carfile.net and what I saved on that deal I was able to spec up the model to my taste. It costs nothing to ring them (only the cost of the call) and get a quote, you pay the dealer not the broker the deposit. Infact I'm stalling on going for a Rapid myself, waiting until the next reg next March, unless I drop on a SH model of my spec in the meantine.

I have absolutely no connection with the above company, just a satisfied customer and would go that route again if buying new.

Thanks for the advice - I'm just a bit nervous about going through a broker in case there are problems with the car - having said that I've done a bit of research and it seems like it should be fine. This might sound like a stupid question but if I buy through a broker and there is a problem with the car would I be able to take it to any skoda dealer in my area and it would be covered by the warranty? I assume this is the case but just checking. The price of the rapid via these online brokers looks very tempting - a real bargain.

Also how do they deliver the car to you? Is it on a lorry or so they drive it? Again I assume it's on the back of a lorry?

My particular dealings with the broker I mentioned goes something like this......

Ring broker, get a quote for the car you are interested in plus any options, prices are all there on the website that was the price I ultimately paid.

The broker will then contact a dealer and find out if a deal at that price can be done. The broker will then ring you back with an answer and ask if you want to place an order, in my case it was a yes. You accept or decline.

Once you accept the deal the broker then hands you over to the dealer, then the dealer will contact you and confirm the order, spec, price etc and you pays your deposit, simples really.

One word of warning though you will have to travel to the dealer concerned to collect your car when ready, that could be anywhere in the UK. I guess if you want it delivered then it's extra. I was lucky it was just a short journey for me to collect from the supplying dealer, infact I popped over to them for a test drive in their demo after I had paid my deposit.

Re problems, I guess you are covered and any dealer should do work under warranty like any dealer should carry out servicing no matter where you bought the car.

Don't forget big places like Motorpoint (car supermarket) actually point you in the direction of the dealer for warranty work servicing etc, the dealers are glad of the extra work even if you didn't purchase the car from them. I've actually got a Skoda dealer closer to me (6 miles) than the supplying dealer (24 miles) and could use them but don't, I prefer the latter.

As above this is exactly what I did Skoda Rapid 13 plate 10 miles on clock 1.6 TDI £12000 from Motor Point.  Any warranty work to be carried out is done with Simpsom Skoda in Colne.  (only had to take it the once) Skoda were never a problem with mine
