Fitting a Amundsen satnav in a oct vrs 08

Featured Replies

I am looking at fitting one of these units to my vrs which has a stream head unit with aux

Will I need a new dash piece to fit?

Cheers

Paul

Also I have maxidot display with this unit with that?

Yes you would need a new dash trim.

No it won't display on Maxidot. Only the Columbus can do that.

The reason for this is that the Amundsen only supports the new CAN messages (BAP) wheareas the Columbus can be switched into DDP mode which is what the pre-FL model cars use.

But everything else should still work?

What about the blue tooth and the likes?

What dash piece would I need?

Yes the sat nav will still work fine.

The bluetooth will work fine as long as it's built in to the Amundsen. Not all Amundsens have bluetooth so watch out for this.

You will also need a DAB antenna if it's got DAB.

The trim piece you need is the same as the Columbus one. A Skoda dealer can source them or confirm part numbers.

Depending which colour you want will change the price significantly. The plain black one is about £8 from the dealers and the brushed silver is about £40.

Bluetooth will be defined by having a MAC on the side of something other than 00:00:00:00:00:00:00:00

You will  need a microphone too, as it's not built into the unit. Dead easy to fit, and lives in the centre interior light housing (there's a grille there for it)

If you go to   http://www.skodaparts.com     and put "Octavia Navigation Trim" into the search, you'll get an idea of looks and prices.......and part numbers if you go to your local dealer, As Phil says: prices vary with looks, if you have \a facelift model they are stupid-expensive too.

DAB will be defined by having a round black connector to the top-left as you look at the back of the unit. DABONWHEELS do some nice DAB aerials :)

If you're not OCD about the unit *having* to be Skoda branded, the VW/SEAT RNS315 are exactly the same unit, although the startup splashscreen will be VW or SEAT, and the buttons glow red, and (I think) the main menus are red not green.

In my opinion the units are very good. The only possible downside is the updates: there's no "community" behind the update system (unlike RNS510/Columbus), so you'll looking through eBay or a dealer for the SDCard to do the updates.
