Max Verstappen gets F1 drive, aged 16

Featured Replies

Clearly developed from a very early age by his F1 racing driver dad (most famous for the Hockenheim pit fire) but even so, getting an F1 drive when you are just 16 is some going. No doubt he has bragging rights in the playground! Good to see that Torro Rosso continue to look out for new young talent rather than recycling has-beens.

Fair play to him - looks like I'd better start a 2015 Driver thread.

Good on him.

It is no surprise really that so young a driver gets into F1.

People are going into Motorsport Teams from excelling in Computer Games.

F1 is just Big Karting now, only less exciting,  and lots of the drivers still in their 20's are getting past it.

Too worried about the Celebrity Lifestyle and showing out off the track.

The only thing required now as well as the talent is to bring the 'Cash Money' and funding into the Team, and you can get a seat in a car.

It was only last week Franz Tost was saying Vergne needs a big result :D

Is 16/17 far too young to be in F1? Currently the youngest to start a GP is 19.  Surely going through lower formule will develop his skills both mentally and physically ready for F1. Other than karting, he will only have done 1 year in a racing car (FIA F3).

In saying that Kimi went straight from Formula Renault to F1 in 2001, he'd only completed 23 single-seater races!

Toro Rosso will need to start fitting booster seats soon.
