Front wheel bearing replacement

Featured Replies

Hello all

I have a 1.9tdi 8v PD estate engine code BKC (1Z5)

Just had it serviced and discovered that the front offside wheel bearing has quite a bit of play in it and needs replacing.

On research it seems that there may be two types of wheel bearing fitted. One has a three bolt fixing layout and the other has four bolts.

Mine has four bolts.

The question is . Is there an illustrated idiots guide anywhere that someone could send me the link.

The job does look quite simple but if anyone on the forum has experience of doing this job their experiences would help greatly.

Certainly I will need to know the size of the four bolts (they are multi splined) ? M12, I don't know, and of course the size of the hub bolt and type of socket needs to be known prior to doing the job. Is it 27mm

All posts gratefully received

Thanks all

Tom

I had 1 done last month, it is quite an easy job, but the hub nut has to be torqued to a very high setting.

I think the bearing was about £80.00 from TPS, and I was charged for about an hours labour.
