Wheel hop

Featured Replies

Anyone else suffering from pretty bad wheel hop under hard acceleration? Happens mostly on wet surfaces.

This is with TC turned off.

No, all seems to happen pretty much as it should, mind you, I have a DSG.

No problem to wheel hop with TDI and DSG, till TC is coming in takes a little time.

I have the 1.8TSI DSG (180hp).

Which is faster than the VRS TDI at 7.5 secs 0-60 (compared to 8.2). I find it hard to believe the 2.0TSI does not wheel hop though?

An 'anti lift kit' will help eliminate this. Many people make then, I opted for the White line variant & certainly made a difference. With need wheel alignment done after though as it changes the front end geometry.

I only get it on my TSI vrs in the wet on poor road surfaces. So I'm more careful now.

I think its the high compliance rear control arm bushes that allow the geometry to change and the wheel to move forward and backwards. A poly bush in there would reduce it but also reduce ride quality...

I think suspension in vrs makes it a bit more difficult to hop wheels but with Revo stage 1 they hop like crazy even when roads are dry.

I said wet I meant to say damp, wet just lights up lol.

I'd imagine with a revo map it would be far easier to break traction and end up in a situation which the wheel could hop. I'd say tyre choice could play a big part too.

My last pd140 Passat used to batter its suspension with really bad wheel hop if you were not careful

I have had it a couple of times when I've tried launch control...
