I have just put the key (electronics and blade) to my wife's 1.9tdi into a new casing. The car can be locked and unlocked as usual but the immobiliser no longer 'unlocks' and so the engine only runs for a second or so. The glow plug light flashes in unison with the car security light. As this is the only key to the car, I seem to be beached! Any help much appreciated .

did you swap over the immobiliser chip, a small glass bead about the size of a grain of rice?

 

It's glued in and can be removed with nail varnish remover to dissolve the glue. BE CAREFUL, it's very delicate so use caution.

 

Many thanks Lee. I chickened out on the ungluing as if I broke the thing that would be that without a spare key. All back together again and the car runs like a good'un.

I know the transponders are unpowered but I thought they were fitted in the pcb.

No worries, an immos swap either works or you end up paying for a new key etc. Bit of a gamble TBH but it can be done.
