Car Alarm, Temporary Disabling....

Featured Replies

I'm going on my hol's soon and the ferry company request that vehicle alarms are switched off during the crossing "36 hours", can I do this by locking the car with the key "not electronically with the fob", to reactivate the alarm do I unlock the car with the key or use the fob...........or do I just ignore the ferry company and lock my car as normal with the fob......

mick..

As long as your car doesn't have a tilt sensor you just need to press the button on the drivers side pillar (to the right hand side of the drivers door) before closing and locking the car.

This disables the interior sensors. The sensors work on pressure changes inside the car so disabling them will mean the movement of the car won't trigger the alarm.

We use ferries regularly and my alarm has never gone off doing this.

You should have a button on the drivers side door pillar under the seat belt.

Press this button as you exit the car and then lock it with the key fob as normal.

This turns off the internal motion sensors which should prevent the alarm from activating when on the move inside a ferry.

Have Fabia Mk1's got this button?

Yes I think they do.

If they have the alarm fitted with the interior sensors anyway.

My Seat Cordoba had this button.

That button disables the tilt sensor also

My Fabia never had that button. I don't think it had interior sensors.

Yeah not all models had them. Think the vRS did aswell as elegance and higher models.

My Cordoba only had them as it was the SE model but the S model didn't.

My Fab was a vRS. It was an early one on a 53 plate. Maybe it was added later in the model life.

My 07 vRS has this button so I would think it should be on any Mk II with the alarm and sensors.
