Cree H7's in heads?

Featured Replies

Anyone done it?

FL vRS with Hid kit fitted to dims.

Would Cree bulbs in the heads be any good or just a pain and problematic?

Not as bright as H7's then?

i wouldnt say so. I've got cree reversing lights and although they are bright they dont have much distance and they need to have a longer throw of light than your oem hid's

The ones I have seen all have proper, designed for purpose reflector systems, and used in their own housing. These give phenomenal output, even the comparatively low current consumption ones.

Someone started a thread recently about some H7 fitment lamps and tiny built in reflector/fan unit.

£100 a pair though, a bit rich for me just on the off chance.

http://advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=948701 this guy sells an amount of LED stuff - driving and spot lamps which users seem happy with.

There are several other resellers on ADV, in the vendors section. Have a lurk.

When the HIDS are so good and cheap why bother?

Q. When the HIDS are so good and cheap why bother? Paddypaws.

A. I think the ultimate goal is to have main beams as powerful as the dip with hid. Awaiting the H1 base. Perhaps they can be fitted legally? (sorry)

The HID's are great, they almost make the mainbeam redundant - even the nightbreaker type ones. Absolutely.

Some of us are inveterate fiddlers, and the technology is progressing really quickly.

When I was an apprentice, on most cars, a heater was an +cost extra. Radios were unheard of. If you wanted a better car, you had to alter it yourself. Valve radio's or underdash record players for your 45's, Desmo self adhesive so called demisters, anti nausea chains, Peco exhaust boosters, stickytape that made you faster etc etc.

I occasionally contemplate gutting a standard headlamp shell and fitting bi-xenon units. I suppose I could then fit a proper high power LED lamp in place of the existing mainbeam for a driving/passing/flashing lamp.

My "excuse" for what will likely turn out to be just fantasies, is I do a bit of very late night driving on the empty Autobahns when going to visit my sister. Quite a few sections of my usual route are unlit. When making progress, it can be like driving into a black hole, even with HID's and nightbreakers.

Hitting a hedgehog or bunny is not going to cause much damage or even be noticed. In Germany. the roadside margins are often much narrower to the tree line than on UK motorways. A deer or 1/2 ton of wildboar can be fatal to all involved. (over 100,000+ wildboar are culled in Germany most years. The problem continues to grow as the population expands).

When the HIDS are so good and cheap why bother?

do you mean using h7 hid's?

unless you have hid's which go to full brightness almost instantly then they are usless and most of these ebay specials take a few seconds to "warm up"

Well
I used my sons 520D as a test car.
Put a set of Cree h7's in to the Dims.
To look into the ligh units would almost blind you.

To use them in the dark they are useless.
Np distance whatsoever.

Right

Nightbreaker plus or Philips extremes for my heads??
The heads are h7 are they??
