oil light flashing intermittent

Featured Replies

I've got a mk1 octavia vrs and the oil light has just started flashing intermittent.

It has done it 3 times in 30mins

It was fine last night after a good hard drive.

Today I have cleaned the back scuttle under the bonnet. then sprayed it with clean water, to clean any residue. I have checked the oil and it is bang on top limit.

What could be causing the problem?

What colour is the light?

Oil take up pump, sludge problem possibly, id get it checked out, if you have low pressure yo8 can properly ruin your engine

Or it coud be the sensor / switch is faulty. I had a ruined engine from low oil prwssure and it knackered the cams and bearings, new engine time

Red flashing

Dont drive it mate, get it to a garage, yiu can do some damage they will need to take the sump off to see if the take up is blocked or the pump needs replacing, an idea to do while its off

I will be getting a pick up pipe from tps in the morning and then fitting it at night

I had a 2002 audi a4 and thus was a nightmare as yiu cant just get the sump off without tak8ng off the cross member, i think on our cars its should come off easy?

Sump easy job on these

Just be remeber the 2 bolts up by flywheel and make sure you don't cross them

Long 5mm ball end Allen key

Next oil change I would like the take off the sump and clean it out. Check the pick up etc.

Can I get to it by raising just one side of the car or do I need to get it up on 2 front jacks nice and high(which I assume). I haven't been under the car yet.

What gasket do I need and where from?

I have the 2.0l petrol AZJ engine.

Get it up on axle stands. I believe that you need sealant rather than a gasket, get the proper stuff from a dealer or TPS.

As mentioned with a red light don't drive it.

It is a low pressure warning light.

So pump is not pushing oil around engine efficiently.

Chances are pick up pipe blocked.

Best off to jack car up even.

Also no gasket on these cars just sealant.

Here is my guide...
