Forgetful MDI input!

The MDI input in our Fabia Monte Tech Estate keeps 'forgetting' that our iPod is connected. We have tried changing both the cable and the iPod but the problem keeps occurring. Basically, when the ignition is turned off the MDI input forgets the connection and when you get back into the car the display on the Amundsen states that no MDI is connected. When you unplug the iPod and then plug it back in it recognises it and plays fine!

Any ideas folks?
