Air con not working

Featured Replies

My 2010 L&K Octavia Estate had only 22230 miles on it when I bought it in Feb this year and has now just over 32k on the clock. As it wasn't needed, it was a few months later when I tried the air con and it didn't seem very cold. I assumed, in my ignorance, that it needed a regas which was carried out but on the drive from the garage it was apparent that the air con wasn't working and a leak check was advised. Days before the car was due in for this check the garage informed me that their air con expert had left so I contacted a local air con specialist who checked the car and has advised me that the fault lies with the compressor control valve and that he would recommend a compressor change rather than just changing the valve. As any job concerning the air con appears to be very expensive I would really appreciate any thoughts or suggestions.

Had mine done by

Great job and and less than a hundred price including coming to me.

Sadly the compressors are prone to failing and it's best to replace it. I replaced the one on my last Octavia myself and the new compressor was £200. I would guess it would cost around double that to have it done, but there's not really any other option except leave it not working. To do the job 'properly' it will also need a new drier (which might be part of the condenser). I didn't change mine as it was about £60 I think but it worked perfectly regardless. Of course, it will also need refrigerant and oil.

I have an Octavia VRS 2007 petrol which I had a new air con  compressor done at a Skoda garage and it cost just under £700 this includes the initial investigation, parts, re-gas, labour and VAT. Atleast it has the Skoda parts and labour warranty if anything goes wrong.

Thanks guys.

Zednine, Ron Cowe has examined the car and has diagnosed a duff valve, don't know which one, on the compressor and has quoted me £413 to replace the compressor and regas etc so it sounds like you got a bargain!

I've spoken to some people in the past about the carair solutions guy, they all said his prices were very fair and he did a good clean job.
