project 32 & bsd

Featured Replies

Did for no other reason then I had both products and thought I would give it a go.  Applied p32 on the bonnet of the octy and couldnt really tell the difference from the bsd on the rest of the car, maybe a little extra shine over bsd but not by much, and decent water behaviour afterwards.  But then my bonnet has been hammered by stones and the like, so just for s**ts and giggles, mixed p32 & bsd in a spare bottle and applied to the fiesta and octy after washing. P32 is thinner so made the application a little better IMO, as did the fine mist of the wilko spray bottle I put it in. Pics....

Seems to have added a little extra gloss to both, but could easily be placebo and/or favourable lighting conditions.

And some monday morning beading shots waiting for the bin men to get out of my way....

Dont know if is normal for some products but didnt appear as keen to keep the tight uniform beading and keep me entertained like BSD, more like running off the surface asap. But did seem to be beading a little more conventionally later in the day so maybe this is normal and I just caught the moment where the rainfall overwhelmed the beading, I really dont have the experience to say for sure? Will have to do a 50:50 bonnet or roof split at some point.

  • Just a thought but us lot from Yorkshire and whoever else wants to get involved should all get together for a meet, bring a long any detailing products we don't use or don't want any more and swap bet

    Bloody good idea.

  • I think it's all down to the Brilliant Shine (DETAILER) That it's always been either confused or overlooked that it's not actually a qd. However I still use it like a qd. Although through the summer

Cars look fantastic regardless mate, top job!

Interesting experiment. As you say - hard to make a conclusion based on this.

Very difficult to beat the beading that Sonax BSD exhibits, closest i've seen is Fusso most recently.

Cars are looking good though mate - good work!

Quite a few experiments now in mixing BSD with other QD products

I assume the aim is to achieve great beading with the slickness of a QD....BSD is a little grabby

The main problem, is that BSD is not really a QD...its a liquid sealer

Until anyone produces a slicker liquid sealant, then I doubt mixing is going to achieve much

Agree with the above... remember that Sonax BSD is a spray sealant, not a QD.

Currently waiting on a sample of Fusso Spray Sealant from Jackie Wong to make a comparison with Sonax BSD.

However I still use it like a qd. Although through the summer months I've enjoyed qds such as honey bee and ultra violet just to mention a few.

I still think it's quite interesting hearing about the mixes but if I use sonax bsd now it's because I want the protection so slickness isn't on the agenda for me.

Many QD's are in fact really sealants, that is part of the reason a good number will eat your LSP, especially if Wax.  BSD used over their NPT or other Polymer treatments does work as a detailer + top up.

Chemical Guys V7 and Project 32 which is basically a copy of this are both sealants in my book.

Dodo Juice Red Mist I would also class as a sealant.

Valet Pro Citrus Bling undiluted or 1-1 is really a spray wax.  Same for Autobrite Berry Blast.  Loads of others contain Carnauba and have that secondary top up action.

Angelwax QED is a proper QD as is Meg's Last Touch, neither should really override the LSP but are helpful as a drying aid or cleaning up of watermarks after drying.

lots of replies considering I was d*cking around for 10 minutes after the car's weekly bath. Will have to try and absorb the detail above after work, lots to take in.

quick question on the above, are Bsd and P32 examples of quick sealants that will eat lsp, specifically a wax one? I think P32 has words on the bottle the effect it it lacking a cleaning product so can be layered to increase the effect. Will check the exact wording later.

Second question would be is it always better to use a wax based spray for a top up on a wax LSP?

Lastly what is the role of a QD as opposed to the quick sealant types discussed? purely for extra shine without a protection topup, or is the topup there just not as durable?

Yes always try to use a QD that is compatible....easier said than done

Not many favour wax, but BSD seems OK with a wax LSP

Bilt Hamber QD works the best with wax IME

Still dont think I can start taking credit for the Octy, its less than 2 months since Chris polished it.  I'll happily milk the applause for the fiesta though :giggle:

Will be interesting to see Keechy's results with the UVBSD.  Am I right in thinking you were impressed with the UV in the madcow thread? pics of a gleaming yeti? Will you be keeping BSD as your go-to protection topup, but use UV for a little extra gloss now and again ?

Will have a look about next time im in the market for gear.  Have a growing little car care collection, but still has the odd gap.  Experimenting with £10ish QD/QS I can justify, along as it doesnt get to experimenting with £50 paste waxes ill be golden.  Tucked away at the bottom of this post probably isnt going to attract a lot of attention but is there a particular time of year that the daft discounts come out? Xmas or Black friday etc.

QOUTE

If this is directed at me then yes I intend to keep using uv throughout the finer weather and then back to good old bsd for my in between washes protection in winter.

it was yes, and thank you for the answer :)

Thanks for saying the yeti looks gleaming by the way. :)

Is project 32 any good? I imagine it's just like CG V7 never used it but I do like trying out QD's I have one on its way from mainze car care.

Called blue moon (thanks to ste for ordering this)

Can't wait to try it, and I will post a review on it. But if it's half as good as honey bee I will be happy. That's a qd plus wax for those who don't know .

But it has one of the best finishes I've seen left from a qd.

And quite good durability with it containing wax.

Best as I can tell Project 32 is an out and out copy of GC V7

There are a couple of Autobrite products like that.

Hellshine Eliminator is for all intents and purposes Auto Finesse Tough Prep

Thanks for this mark.

Driving to my in laws tomorrow I'm going to call off at their retail shop and have a nosey around.

I will now not bother with p 32 at all.

It is still good, you would just be hard pressed to tell it apart from V7 imo.

If you are going that way and don't mind me being very cheeky, could I possibly ask you to pick me up a few pieces, I can send you the cash in advance.

I know you liked Pink Sheen for interiors, FAB is a really nice accompaniment for fabric and carpet cleaning.

Jaffa Clean, Euphoria and Wax off are also really worth a try

Berry Blast and Bubble gum trim and tyre are also pretty good.

tbf the tight arse Yorkshireman in me is loathed to pay full price when they slash everything 50% at Christmas, I'll just sit tight.

and yes I know that is a bit sad.

But I love a bargain me :)

Me too Mark

Just to add to this thread

I've used both P32 and V7 and don't really like them

I prefer BSD. But my favourite, but less durable ....Bilt Hamber QD is a winner with wax lsp's

that much of a discount? think I'll hold off the non essential purchases till discount time. Is that sort of discount industry wide for want of a better term at xmas? does hardware get a decent haircut too? DA's and the like?

Nowt sad in value for money, unless you end up buying loads of kit you dont need, or waste hours to save that last couple of £

Yes ABDirect discount that hard on most products but they rotate the offers daily to promote a good stock clearout so you place orders over their "12 days of Christmas" and then pay postage on the last one and request to group the orders (caution delivery has been erratic), other providers do offers but rarely as hefty a discount but worth scouting on Detailing World to see what is about.  Hardware tends to stay at normal prices.

Is this the LSP eating issue?

I saw a few non complimentary threads on AB delivery somewhere, not too much of a problem as I live about a 30-40 min drive away so could always pickup.  Might be a bit of a logistical 'mare with payment but I'd be willing to pick up a job lot of orders and forward on to people in December if that would be of use, a bit of a thankyou for the guidance here.

Yes...They both like Sealant LSP's better IME

Very kind offer.

I usually just e-mail Mark and Jill with the order details and have had no great issues, I cancelled one impulse order once but generally have just held my patience and been very happy when a large box of goodies like this arrives all at half normal retail cost
