Abs light

Featured Replies

Hey iv been doing alot of work to my car lately. I managed to go for a test run the other day everything seemed well other than a abs light and a ! Light. Anyone help me pin point the problem? Suspensions been replaced and fitment of a oil catch can and evap delete. Everything else iv done wouldn't effect it at all.

Check the handbrake is going off properly and activating the make-to-break switch, and check the brake fluid level. I may be wrong, but at least these are free to do.

My guess is that the ABS sensor and pad wear cables have been damaged when the suspension was replaced.

Pad wear cables have been soldered together because there is no sensor on my pads. One of the abs cables has been mended before but looks fine.

Get it on diagnostics, or do it the long way and start by checking the resistance of the wheel speed sensors

ABS speed sensors tend to be the culprit.  And more often than not, tend to have rusted into the hub making changing them a total PITA job.

Take it my car will fail mot with these lights on. Going to take a look this weekend

any warning light = fail...

Yeah. I've had two sensors go, and one wiring fault on the N/S front. However you can buy a new plug and cable off the bay, to fix that.

I've found that the front sensors normally come off ok - it's the rears which are a PITA. My patented method to shift them is to kill them with fire from a hand-held blowtorch, until most of the plastic has burned away, then just hammer out the remaining guts with an old screwdriver or drift tool.

So there is a sensor per wheel not just fronts?

Yes - each wheel has an ABS sensor. Only the left front has the brake pad sensor.
