First 'prototype' test drive.... (Autocar)

Featured Replies

Autocar's opinions on the chassis and interior sound positive.

Sure the 110BHP 1.2TSI will allay their fears about the engines.

Interesting early review.

They clearly like the handling better with the lighter engine, although it lacks any real performance.

I always found the Fabia/Rapid with the 1.2tsi handled noticably better than the 1.6 diesels so you can certainly understand that.

The Road Tester that did the Review for 'Autocar' should maybe of got in the Last Production version of the Fabia Mk2 FL,

& driven one. before driving the 'New Fabia',

then they would not have been going on a 'Faint Memory' of the car that it supersedes.

So did Autoexpress not get a shotty of the New Fabia?

Yes, there is a review somewhere of them driving the 1.2tsi version.

The review linked in post #4 in this thread seems to be them Reviewing, not Driving.

I will look for the Road Test Review in the 1.2 TSI.

Good positive reviews. Surely a 1.0litre hauling a car around that size is going to be lacking anyway in power unless it is one of those new fangled Ecoboosts?

Great car for the Silver Surfers, that have lost their mojo.

Probably fine for growing family with basic requirements.

The autoexpress review posted by RapidRonnie is of the 1.2tsi.

We've owned 1.9Tdi Mk1 and Mk2, 1.2HTP and 1.2Tsi Fabia's. The 3 cylinder petrol was by far the sweetest handling car and the 1.9TDi the worst.

Can't beat having a light engine in the front for good handling, especially for transverse engined FWD cars.

The shame the old HTP is no more, it's a far nicer motor than the newer 1ltr replacement, which in the CityGo I've driven needed a lot of gear work to keep it going.

If the new TSI 110 has a six speed box unlike the current cars TSI 105 5 speed, then it could be the best option.

The Auto Express Review on the 1.2 TSI does not speak about the Reviewer driving it ,

or am i missing were the Drive Done in the car is described?

The Auto Car is about the a drive in a Proto type.

DOH, Sorry i see it now.   "the 1.2 TSI 89 bhp that we tried"    My Bad.

I was thrown by them using the same picture of the car that Auto Car used for the 1.0 Litre car  Pre - production car.

I agree, they didn't really comment on performance though.

It is not unknown for motoring journalists to pick up the Media pack on the car, read it, take note of the details, drive the car and not know what engine was in the car.

& it is common for details to be written in Reviews,  Road Tests etc, opinions given,

then these are repeated for years, including the inaccuracies.

In all honesty I would probably prefer a proper integrated sat nav too, but if I liked the car enough to buy it I would just change my phone.

I guess the advantage of going this way is that phone-nav should be always up-to-date whereas a car based system wouldn't be?

Apple has less than 20% market share in the smart phone market so probably wasn't a priority.

Apple's Car Play is very restrictive in it's current format. You don't get full functionality on the cars display.

Mirror link has far more functionality and was probably a better product to have at launch.
