Dints or Dents?

Featured Replies

Browsing eBay and autotrader (as you do) i seem to see reference to "one small dint" or "a few dints as to be expected of a car this age"

I thought that after you dented your car it was left with a dent?

What if someone dinted your car?  :D

Well i'm sure they'd go "oh dear i've dinted that car with my trolley" and do a runner to which i'd come out and go "oh look some ******* has dented my car"

is it a dent or is it a dint?

i guess it's in the eye of the beholder

Dint is a nice term, and correct, it can describe a wee mark from a ding maybe on a wing.

Oh god, now we have dent, dint, or ding.

According to the OED dint was the original old English word (meant a blow from a weapon - so you'd dint somebody with an axe) and dent is derived from it.

So, they would dint the car with the trolley, and leave a dent.

you can ding something. i get that

but normally having a ding will result in a dent

is dint just a combo of the 2 maybe?

If I ding it normally results in a dong just after

I've got a fella who comes round - his called Singh the Ding (I don't think that's his proper name  :D )

Pasty - not a bloody clue, same boat, different gravy?   .

If your selling a car it's a ding......

...... if you're buying a car it's a dent

If you get dinted and it leaves a dent whilst at the top of a hill but you're still left in a good mood, say around late December time, could this be summarised as "Ding dong merrily on high..."...just saying like...

My personal favourite Stat-side is the "Ding King Dent Remover"

This may sound like a sexual offence in Blighty, but....https://www.dingking.tv/

Ding Dong, the dent is gone!

Bing bong with the dint removing tong.

To put something else into the equation, in Newcastle Toon they refer to "Dents" as "Dunshes" - hence:

So now, heaven help us, we've got "Dint" "Dent" "Ding" and "Dunsh"!

This, however, may be of interest to the scholarly:

I would say dings and dints are little dents.

Any of which can be caused by getting a big or small dunt or shunt.      (dunt is a Scottish word and rhymes with ****)
