Problems.. need advice if anyone would be so kind :)

Featured Replies

I broke my barrel on the drivers door so decided to buy a remote central locking kit. I've installed it as per the instructions but have a problem where it only works when the ignition is turned on.

I'm wondering if it's got something to do with power getting to the door or a ground as my car doesnt make a sound when I leave my lights on and open the door anymore. Could this be making the locking play up?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Where did you take your power supply from to the locking kit?

I cut into the drivers door plug for the locking and windows. I just can't seem to work it out! It's weird that it all works fine when the ignition is on.

I would try taking a power supply from somewhere else

take the power straight from the battery with an in line fuse

You've probably wired up to a switched live source, not a permanent live source. :)   Really need a meter to tell you what wires are on and when (i.e ignition on/off)

sorry to jump your thread but just rang a bell when i was reading OP. ive always wondered about whoever wired up the alarm on my car and thought maybe it had cocked somethin up cause my 'lights left on' dinger never worked and lights up n down adjusters too (other dodgy electrics too but had lot of problems with doors)

little red led on the alarm in windscreen is always on so i always wondered. reading this thread im now thinking i might have similar problems

be interested to see how u get on

Thanks for the replies. I'm going to try and take the power straight from the battery then or maybe the permenant in the radio. I've got a volt meter somewhere so will have to dig it out. I'll let you know how I get on tomorrow afternoon. I still don't know what's causing the lights left on dinger not to work (might check the fuses tomorrow too). It used to about 3 months ago and now it doesn't I'm forever leaving the lights on! It's been the most reliable car I've had so far apart from some dodgy wiring!

If it's not the wiring it could be the micro switch has gone in your door module like mine has as it doesn't recognise when I have the door open either

Microswitch wont make a difference in this case as its a central locking kit seperate from the rest of the system.

Tried a wire straight from the battery to the unit and it's still only working when ignition is on :-? It will lock when the ignition is off but not unlock. When I put the key in after ive locked it it seems to unlock a bit when I turn the key. This is very confusing.

I can't seem to find a proper diagram of my cars wiring which isn't helping either.

Can you post up any info about the kit used? And instruction manuals with it etc.. And how its currently wired in

Yeah it looks exactly like the kit you used. Same diagrams etc, I just wondering if I've wired it into the wrong lock or something which is stopping me from unlocking it.

Where did you wire it in to? The door control unit inside the drivers door? In post #5 on that thread is the correct wiring order that RWBALDWIN gave. I wired mine into the door but i cant remember the wire colours. That car is long gone now to
