Bolero from new Fabia III to Octavia III?

Featured Replies

Hi guys, first post here :)

I am looking to buy a new Octavia III, without Satnav as the Amundsen gets bad reviews and Columbus is very expensive in my country. Recently I read that the new Fabia comes with Mirrorlink, which is a handy function allowing you to mirror your mobile screen on the Bolero screen. This will help a lot with apps like Google Maps and will save a lot of money, not to mention that I consider Gmaps superior to all other navigations.

So, the questions is, do you think it would be easy to get this functionality in an Octavia, through software update maybe? Or even better - is it possible that Skoda starts delivering the newer Octys with the newer Bolero with MIrrorlink already enabled?

I hope so, I am about to order my second VRS and this kinda option would make me very happy indeed if it were free.

And me too with a BW46 L&K (half model year change ??????)

Just googled this and it looks really interesting..Haven't ordered my Octy yet so it will be next year before its delivered...Hopefully it will be brought over to the Octy Bolero soon (also managed to confirm that my Sony Xperia Z1 Compact is Mirrorlink compatible)

Apple devices on mirror link are approx 1 yr away though if rumours are true.

Apple won't support MirrorLink natively... and it's doubtful any apps that do will be allowed into the App Store.  They have their own CarPlay technology that they've already signed most of the major manufacturers up to.

What will be really interesting is whether manufacturers will offer different units and support both CarPlay and MirrorLink in the same models (or maybe even have one unit that supports both), or whether they will select one or the other (or mix and match across models or specs, which would be a right royal mess).

That makes more sense - info I had was from the library section in Asda.

Valves and transistors...  even older.

Amundsen is pretty good, it's not vastly expensive (in the UK at least)...If you want built in sat nav it's a relatively affordable way to do it.

The columbus is excellent but I wouldn't say it's world's better in terms of navigation as they share similar (though granted not identical) programming and mapping.

I've used mine quite a bit to get around and it's considerably more robust than my old tom tom and the integration is all v nice....mirror link is great don't get me wrong but I'd bet the Octavia doesn't get it for a while (until it's mid life face lift at least) and I bet it will have is share of bugs/compatibility issues.

Not expensive in the UK? I swear it was £700.00 here or at least was when I ordered mine.

It is pretty expensive when you consider it's basically adding an SD card and GPS receiver to the Bolero unit which you get for free anyway.

Still I do love my Amundsen, it's very good for a built in sat nav :)

£550 according to the brochure.

Indeed which is significantly less than the Columbus at £1350, though appreciate with that in the UK at least you get Colour maxi dot and the equivalent of mitsumi thrown in which is nice.

Even as an £800 option on the Elegance I bought don't think I'd have ever spec'd it, Amundsen is more than adequate as an iinfotainment unit.

Yes, and unfortunately I remember those too

Fingers crossed for a way to add Mirrorlink, I've had a good play with it in a Golf and it's great!
