Car insurance, well that's a pleasant surprise!

Featured Replies

Just started to look around as my insurance for my 2003 VRS is up first thing in October.
I was quite shocked to get a quote for less that £150, I've never heard of anyone getting insurance for less than £150 for any car let alone a VRS!
I'm 39 and also have 2 claims in the last 5 years; both minor accidents, one my fault the other was the other driver.

Mine was £144 last year, renewal has just come through for £159 this year...I might go on a comparison website.

Standard car with no mods? :)

I think the major factor in my quote is my age. I think it's disgraceful that young people have to pay so much. I think they should be charged no more than £500 and then have a very hefty excess amount which is kept as a deposit be the insurance company; this way it would encourage safer driving because the driver won't get the deposit back at the end of the year. Also, as a small incentive, the insurance company could offer a small interest rate on the deposit kinda like a bank.

My quote is for a standard VRS with no mods.

My insurance premium on renewal in June was £140+6% tax = £148.40 .  9 years no-claims and with a £100 excess.  Includes my wife as named driver.  Arranged through the IAM insurance scheme.

Chris, does the small text at the bottom say drivexpert box. Could you have to have a black box fitted.

I'd avoid it like a plague, as with telematics data they can always wiggle out of claims. Not to mention charging you for "persistent speeding" at 32mph in 30mph zone...

Also, many/most lower cost policies restrict use in Europe past mandatory 3rd party cover. Aviva and LV are the only ones I know that allow free in/out of UK with equivalent of UK cover abroad for up to 28 day trips and up to 6 months in a year in total (and without asking to phone them every time you leave and pay for a "green card" like e.g. Direct Line does). I've been stuck with Aviva for many years now for that reason. Aviva has reasonable multi-car insurance now, though, and cheap full UK/Euro breakdown cover can be had through Nationwide's FlexPlus account (for 2 drivers/2cars if it is a joint account).

I didnt noticed that.

To be fair I normally dont go with the first one thats the cheapest. I make sure my excess is £50 or £100 & I get all the stuff included like legal cover etc.

I was just quickly looking on phone to see how much it would be.

Mileage and area are also big factors.  I declare about 24k a year and park on my drive and i pay aprox £300 a year.  36, 8+ years nod, no kids, not married, single etc etc.
