Featured Replies

What age/year is your vrs? Pre-FL or post-FL? Which of the following codes are on the options sticker in the boot? 1KD, 1KF, 1KP, 1KS or 1KT

Its a 2007 57 plate

286 x 12mm is the correct size. You should find code 1KP listed on the options sticker in your service book / the sticker on the floor of your boot to the top left of the spare wheel.

What was the cost all in. the rear calipers on octys are absolute trash same on my mk 1 needed replacing. Is there an alternate which is better or are all vw group same.

I paid £200 for the calipers, disc's & pads, pads & discs were Pagid & calipers (Red) were TRW. The backplates were £50 (got them from local skoda dealer). No labour prices though as i fitted them myself.

Did you replace the spline carrier bolts

You are suppose to replace the carrier spine bolts as they are stretch bolts.

Ok will nip to stealers tomorrow all bits now ordered calipers discs and pads best safe than sorry.

Did you replace the spline carrier bolts

I didnt no......you will need a M14 spline bit to undo them, some people have had trouble undoing them,i just blew all the crap out the bolt head with a air line & made sure the bit was a good fit into the bolt & undid them, they were tight & access is a bit tricky,i used a 1/2" breaker bar & a 1/2" rachet to undo them.

FYI - when I went to order the M14 spline bolts from my local dealer when getting ready to do my rear brakes the parts guys said their workshop techs always just reuse the old ones, they don't replace them.

I also always use the old bolts, this stretch bolt mentality is all scare mongering.  In all the years my cars have been serviced by the main dealer never have I seen new "Stretch Bolts"   :wonder: on the invoice.

Just re use the old bolts torqued up correctly and voila, jobs a good un.

Stretch Bolts my eyeball.
