Servicing Question (1.9 tdi)

Featured Replies

Hi eveyone

First of all I'd like to thank everyone on here for being so helpful with my previous queries  :) .

I bought my Octavia a year ago, I was expecting a service reminder to come up but it says there's another 320 days/12,000 miles left, so I assume it's on variable servicing. From what I've read on here, as I do lowish miles (around 5,000 a year) fixed servicing is better for my car.

My car is currently on 39,680 miles and it has been 6200 miles since the car's last service and 4,258 miles since the fluids check the main dealers do when I bought the car (they also did the cambelt, rollers and tensioner and wipers).

So my question is what should I do? Should I stick to the variable servicing program on the computer, have a fixed service right now or just have an oil change since I've only driven it for around 4,000 miles?

My car is also 5 years old and it has been a year since the last service.

Thank You :)

5,000 miles per year?

I'd revert back to fixed - every 12 months or 10,000 miles, whichever is reached first.

On variable (up to 2 years or 20,000 miles) you'll be hitting the 2 year interval before the mileage.

Personally I prefer fresh oil once a year.

Skoda do fixed price servicing - a fixed service (basically oil and filter) can be had for £139...

5,000 miles per year?

Yep :)

Thanks for the response, my main query was whether I should have a fixed service done or just get the oil changed as it's only done 6,000 miles since the last service.

A fixed service is exactly that - an oil and filter change.

Skoda fluff it up a little (as can be seen on the link), diagnostic's check, health check, wash and vac etc. but it's essentially an oil service.

Not the cheapest at £139 but saves crawling around under the car and you get a main dealer stamp in the service book.

The wife only does 8,000 miles per year in our Octavia, but we still get fresh oil every 12 months, just before winter.
