Oil coolers, what you got? Any issues?

Featured Replies

Will be adding an oil cooler as part of the project but something's telling me it may cause issues with reducing oil pressure.

Has anyone els fitted one?

Has anyone els had issues with them?

It will be quite a small one 8 row, about 30cm wide or somthing like that.

Darkside do a a oil cooler with Thermostatic which it only runs through cooler when up to temp

Kev and I were having a chat about this earlier. He runs an oil temperature gauge in the car, and yesterday on track he was seeing some really high temps up to about 150 degrees.

We agreed that for a road car, an oil cooler is a bit of overkill. If you're consistently thrashing it then yes you'd need one.

If you don't do track work, then even with a thermostatic sandwich plate the temps will be lower apparently. So it'll be difficult day to day to get the car properly up to temp. I can imagine even worse come winter! We came up with the idea of making a decent cover plate which would block air going into the cooler. It could then be simply removed come track days.
