Roads are quieter , or are they?

Featured Replies

I don't think it's my imagination but over the last couple of days I've noticed that the roads do seem to be quieter , especially on motorways and major A roads. Also on the motorways average speeds seem to have dropped by about 5mph.

Looks like some people are trying to avoid making long journeys and are keeping the speed down to improve economy.

Anyone else seen this?

Not round here - still as busy as ever and I nipped out early this morning (7am) to check my tyre pressures at Tesco as I figured they'd have run out of fuel by now so it'd be nice and quiet. Well, it was quiet ;) Shame they'd coned off the whole forecourt

Will have to see how the journey home compares :D

Yep. Very definitely quieter on the A1 Western Bypass yesterday past Newcastle - at 17:40 I was pootling along at a constant 60mph, instead of the normal 6mph.

Same story this morning on the way into Newcastle along the A184 Felling Bypass - much less traffic and much slower driving.

Was that you i just saw on my drive into work? I was in the red Furby vRS.

does seem a bit quieter round oxford too :)

Pretty normal at home.

The Crescent in salford was like the M25 this morning though........much heavier than I've seen it recently.

Not much of a difference noticed, other than the closed Esso at Abingdon, didnt even bother checking out Tesco (as they would have run out anyway).

Traffic did seem to be cruising along a little slower but the lane I was in still made nice progress ;)

They were quieter round Wirral and Liverpool yesterday but back to normal today.

Perhaps people have got the message.

but the lane I was in still made nice progress ;)

using hard shoulder, are we? ;)

Left for work 20 mins late due to late night.... Hit worst traffic ever and it took 15 mins longer to get to work than when I leave at 7.30. :grumpy:

AGAIN, I could have driven straight to a fuel pump (not coned off....) on the big BP I pass every morning. I swear Exeter seems to have not been affected by this... well odd.

It's because everyone down there uses red diesel.

nope, traffic was terrible this morning, infact it's the worse it's been for ages........oh wait schools are back

using hard shoulder, are we? ;)

I probably could  - nope the other side ;)

A few days (weeks?) back there was (yet another) accident on the M4 - a lorry (smaller type) decided to drive along the hardshoulder with hazards on, bypassing 3 lanes of stationary traffic. Nothing wrong with the lorry, as he was driving on the 'main road' later on.

I was extremely glad the police pulled him over as he reached the actual accident. You could hear the police guy give the driver a right rollocking from several car-lengths away. Deservedly so, considering the one time where you stay away from the hardshoulder is when an accident has occured... Muppet lorry driver  All the other lorry drivers were 'as bored as us' being parked up though :P

Mr.World War Fabia, what brings you to oxford if you don't mind me asking? you local(apologies if i've met ya, my memory is terrible:O )

Definitely quieter in Leeds.
