Central locking driver side will not unlock

Featured Replies

Hello - new to this forum as I have just become a Superb Greenline 2 Estate Owner. It's a 2012 model with very low mileage below 10k but was a Cat D. Discovered a couple of issues, first driver side central locking switch will lock, but not unlock the doors, passenger side works fine. Tried swapping the switches but same issue, so it's not the switch, it's something else.....any ideas? The second thing is the distinct droning noise which starts to be noticible around 30-40 mph and present all the way up 70 and above. Read a lot about it and got 4 wheel tracking done and had tyres checked for saw toothing, but that seems fine. Thinking about taking it to dealer as still under warranty, but not sure if they will pull out the Cat D card to wash their hands of it. Any advise welcome, especially on dealing with dealer and Cat D issue. Thanks

Don't mention anything to the dealer, just book it in, obviously if the door locking problem is something to do with the repair that's been carried out, then they might say it's not warranty, otherwise keep stum

Could be a door latch or wiring issue, and other than cat D do you know what's been repaired ? Could it have had a bang on one of the wheels ? Enough to cause a noisy bearing ?

Agree with ric04vrs (second time in ten minutes he he can't do emnicons on iPad, sorry) ) but what was the cause of the Cat D? As the garage may have records of that.

Thanks for your replies.  The cat D was due to panel damage to passenger side, suspect the whole side was damaged for it to be written off, unfortunately no details on accident or repair......guess those are the risks of knowingly buying a Cat D.  Oddly the central locking failure is on the side that did not get damaged.  I have been suspecting the wheel bearing, but with 5k on the clock, cant believe it can fail or it was faulty when it left the factory.  The rear px side tyre has been changed and when I had the car up for 4 wheel alignment that wheel did need a bit of adjustment, so suspect it did take a knock.  Would that be enough to damage the wheel bearing?

Long shot, but your central locking is nothing to do with this is it, maybe not,

Yes, if the tyre had enough of a whack to require renewal, then I'd say the bearing could be damaged
