A trip this morning to the local recycling centre (dump) has proved Skoda found an apt name in Spaceback

I don't understand -- it's still nowhere near the boot size of an Octy (any mark)

I'm guessing once you fold the seats the loading space is good, but yes, for genuine Mk1 Octavia sized space in the boot (at the price of reduced headroom in the back) you need to get a regular Rapid, not a Spaceback. Spaceback refers I guess to space in the back of passenger compartment. That's why I said in the other thread, regular Rapid for families with small kids (large boot needed, rear headroom not so much), and Spaceback for families with older kids / 4 adults.

 

Perhaps "normal" Rapid should be called Spaceboot to increase avoid confusion? Spaceboot and Spaceback..... :p

Previous car was an Octy III estate   

 

More than happy with the space and practicality offered by this better packaged (and more comfortable) Spaceback.

What is the original Rapid called?  Have heard of the spaceback aeroback and another one I cant remember but not know what the standard original rapid is called.

When you say the 'original' Rapid do you mean the 5 door one with the sticky-out boot that came out just before the Spaceback?

 

Oficially Skoda call that a "liftback"

Last time I heard that name used it was on a 1979 Toyota Corolla liftback

 

yes the one (mine) that looks same shape as a Jetta. 

I saw a 14 plate Jetta last night and thought it was a Rapid at first glance. So alike.
