What's the quietest exhaust available?

Featured Replies

Thread on here at the moment about choices of exhausts, and a lot of comments are about it sounding good on boost, etc. but personally I'd love an octy that sounds like a hybrid on it's electric cycle.

Anyone know of any super quiet exhaust systems as a contrast to the more popular type??

From what I hear; mating a Milltek fully resonated cat back exhaust to your standard downpipe is meant to be a very quiet combo. I've read it is quieter than standard (not sure how true it is). I would guess at the very least it would sound the same as a standard exhaust.

Perhaps your other option would be to have a custom exhaust made. I'm sure a good company could get you the sound you're after. Might involve having extra resonating chambers fitted.

I think Powerflow; BCS or Pipewerx would be good places to ask this question.

Ooh, from experience of people I know when I had a Golf G60, and unless things have changed in the last few years, I would not allow Powerrust touch my car!! Seen numerous examples of relatively fresh exhausts from them rusting, having weld open and allsorts! As I said, it may have all changed but they never used to use proper 304 grade stainless steel, instead using the cheap AND thin stuff which DOES rust, and their lifetime guarantee wasn't worth the paper it was written on as you had to take the car back to them every year for an inspection and quite a few people on the ClubGTi forum and other forums took them back just for Powerflow to tell them it wasn't the exhaust, it was the way they'd driven their car and other excuses to get out of it.

When I inquired about getting one built for my G60, they said they would not give it the lifetime warranty at all cos of the heat it produces: they'd obviously had problems before!

On the other hand, I went to Longlife who were superb! Similar price, but used PROPER stainless steel, gave the same lifetime warranty but without clauses, and talked to me at all stages about what I wanted. As it turned out, the immense heat from the G60 turned the stuff inside the silencer into fibre glass balls which rattled, but they took it back, stripped it all down and rebuilt the centre silencer from scratch with a slightly different internal material and I had no problems from then on in. Can't remember any bad stories from Longlife, but as a franchise there probably will be.

I know who I'd go to again if I wanted the whole thing changing, just asked the thread question to see if anyone's found a quiet exhaust yet. :)

That's the one! Longlife not Powerflow; thanks for the correction. :)

To be fair, when I got mine, Longlife (and powerflow) were both cheaper than oem stuff and mine was definitely much better built.
