Strange noise when accelerating around 1300 rpm

Hi all!

 

I have a small problem that it's driving me nuts. For a couple of months I noticed a strange clicking noise somewhere around the pedals area. The noise appears whenever I briefly press the acceleration pedal while in neutral (and the engine goes around 1,300 rpms). The noise is even more evident when the engine comes back to the idle speed.Also, I noticed that it also appears when I engine brake (I did not link the noise with any rpms in this situation, although it seems more frequent at low rpms).

 

I went to an authorized Skoda service with this problem and the answer I received was that, although they cannot pinpoint the part that is causing the noise, it is normal behavior (most likely there is a valve of some sort that opens and closes).

 

The noise is quite strong in the car but almost impossible to notice outside of the car. I’m concerned that the answer received from the dealer is not accurate (as Romanian dealers, at least for Skoda) are known for their “good skills”.

 

The car is an Elegance Estate, 4x4, 2.0 TDI, manual.

 

Have any of you noticed a similar noise? If it’s normal, at least I can turn the radio up to cover it and forget about it.

Given the silence, I presume that no one has faced this problem. This means that I will have to go back to the dealer and try to sort this up there.

From your description is quite difficult to understand the problem you are describing

 

You think the clicking is coming from inside or outside?

If you think its coming from inside & you are pressing the accelerator completely to the floor this is perhaps the "kickdown" switch which, I think I read on here, is fitted on all pedals.

If its from the outside, it may well be the "lash" in the gearbox or click from the DMF when the engine accelerates (but you would hear this also from outside the car).

The noise is not distinguishable from the outside and it is very difficult to identify the exact source. It is quite loud and easily hearable, even with the radio on at reasonable volume. For me it seems to come from around the pedal area, but I cannot say if it comes from the outside or the inside.

 

As I mentioned in my first post, I can reproduce the noise every time if I shortly/gently press the accelerator pedal until the engine goes to around 1,200 – 1,300 rpms and then I quickly release it. So it can’t be the kickdown switch as I never press the pedal to the floor.The sound is somewhat similar with a vacuum pump (like the one in the central locking mechanisms) or a valve opening/closing.

 

If anyone else has this problem (as the dealer mentioned that is a normal noise), trust me that it cannot be missed.

 

Basically, what I’m looking for is not a solution to the problem (if any) but rather I’m asking everybody with the same car configuration if they can reproduce the noise. If so, then it must be a normal noise, no matter how annoying. I have to admit that I am getting very frustrated with the car, as its quality is very poor and I'm constantly waiting for the next piece to fail.

I did solve this problem by changing the garage where I was servicing my car . I have to admit that I don't know the exact details of what they've done, but, if I remember correctly, they said that there was some sort of sensor or pump which was bolted to the bulkhead in the engine compartment which got loose. Also, the sensor/pump should have had a rubber protection to eliminate vibration and noises, which mine didn't. So they took the sensor/pump down, mounted the rubber protection and screwed the assembly back. Haven't had a problem since then (more than 2 years ago).
