Has anyone swooped all the normal halogen bulbs for SMD LED ones? Is there a big difference?

There not halogen bulbs, that's why the other member asked you about headlights.

As meta55b says, the various 5 and 21W fittings used for side, tail, reverse (and indicator and stop) light bulbs use conventional tungsten filaments, not quartz-halogen 9and certainly not plasma discharge) technology.

ISTR that on a 2008 Octy with CANBus and a light-out warning, the lower power consumption of LEDs throws a warning.

You need to find the correct bulbs with load resistors, there are 2 different types.   It's a bit of a lottery with bulbs advertised on Ebay, some don't work properly and bring up the Bulb Warning, lamp even though they list them as 2008 Octavia compatible. The front side lights also die within a couple of months due to the heat from the headlights, the resistors give up.

I have an interior led light pack from EM tuning, http://www.audi-sport.net/xf/forums/em-tuning.209/ an  Audisport sponsor, they've been on my A3  for 2 years now and work perfectly.  He has them specially made for VAG cars, I suggest you contact him ( Forum name t8ups)

What would you benefit from changing the rear sidelights to leds? Since theyre behind a red plastic lense, can you even tell the difference?

Not really, but allegedly they light up quicker!

I fitted them to my last car but only because I sometimes had to leave the side lights on for a long time when parked, and they used less electickery.

Not sure how much less theyd use as theyd be canbus ones with resistors built in?

I guess they would light up quicker, which would look cool, but I'm not sure itd be worth the hassle and expense personally.

Iv done the front sidelights, all interior lights, numberplate lights etc with leds on my Fabia. Looks good IMO. Got them all from HIDsdirect so theyre all pretty good quality

I tried some off ebay but they soon broke

Ive got some SMD LED bulbs in my number plate lights and rear fog light, and i have CREE LED bulbs in my reverse lights which are mega bright and by far the best bulb mod ive done so far.

Havent done the Stop/Tail bulbs yet though.

The (usually) cheap ebay ones are no good and wont last 5 minutes.
