How Do I Wire Up Parking Sensors?

Featured Replies

My 2004 Fabia vRS has parking sensors fitted to the rear bumper and has two wires dangling from behind the bumper. I wondering how do I wire them up? Thank you.

pics of the wires. Colours etc?

Don't you wire them to the reversing light?

Yes, one goes to an earth point, the other (probably RED) needs splicing into the reversing light wire that goes to the reverse light bulb.

Don't they need a control unit as well? I guess it also depends if its a genuine skoda kit or an aftermarket set up.

I'm sure it's genuine, but I don't think there's a control unit. Do you guys have any pictures of what the control unit looks like?

The control unit would be in the boot.

Wowzers! That's expensive!

If the wires were coming from the 4 sensors then there would be 8 wires, so I think you can assume that the 2 wires are coming from the control unit, so as I said previously, splice the RED to the reversing light wire and the other to earth, switch ign on and select reverse to test.

But the control unit is in the boot.

UzzyVRS stated [it has two wires dangling from behind the bumper] so irrespective of where the control unit is located the 2 wires need connecting as my previous post.

How have they got outside the boot?

They go from the control unit IN the boot to the wiring loom IN the boot.

You are assuming the control unit is in the boot, the op has not confirmed that fact, it could well be an abandoned installation and the control unit is tucked up or taped to the inside of the bumper.

In which case it's probably knackered, and shouldn't there be three wires? Where is the buzzer?

The buzzer will be connected by 2 wires that are attached directly to the control unit.

End Of Story !

In which case it was installed by an utter moron and the buzzer is behind the bumper.

I'm probably betting the two wires have come off the back of a sensor. But until we have a photo or someone has looked at it who can give up more info it's all pointless guess work.

Possibly time to start from scratch?

Had a quick look on flea-bay there's loads of complete kits from £15.00
