My day with a Ex works fiesta WRC car

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,
thought I would share some photos from Friday when I won a ride in team Coffeys WRC car. It was also the opportunity I needed to dust the Subaru off and give her a run out (bought a house in June so did have the spare money to get the car back on the road until now)
I was interested to compare my 460bhp striped out subaru vs a real WRC, on paper it similar weight and a good 160ish power less than the road car so I expected a similar feel of speed.

Well i got strapped in and the first thing you really notice is the heat, dam that cars warm inside massive respect to these guys on long stages. You sit very low surrounded by carbon however I was surprised that visibility was still good. ok we set off slowly out of the car park onto the stage and he hit the power...... dam that thing just picks up and goes, it pulls but unlike a car the acceleration doesn't build its just always there, we then he the brakes and it scrubbed speed like nothing i have ever felt, snap goes the handbrake and back on the power. as soon as its straightened  up its firing towards the next corner.

we completed the first lap and he says ok its time to put it in stage mode.....  2nd corner in we spin on a wet section which we both found hilarious. Hats off to Graham Coffey, even on a PR event he was trying his hardest to give us a proper experience!!! a experience I will never forget! by far the fastest car I have ever been in, racing car figures are a different world from road cars!!

Awesome, lucky you, your Scooby looks tasty too !

One lucky guy. That Fiesta is some piece of kit. Your Scooby also fits in perfectly. Did you try it on the track?

Excellent, green with envy here :)

You lucky lucky lucky....  barsteward!

Looks like a fab day out and some nice cars in the pics.

thanks guys, i didn't have massive expectation  for how quick the car would be but it really shocked me, that thing on a ice mountain road at Monaco must take some massive balls!

The Scooby is my pride and joy, thanks to my tdi VRS she has been able to transform into something a little more fun. its completely impracticable but i think that's part of the fun of having a 2nd car. sadly it was a private test day with race cars only so no track time, i think in the back of my mind I thought, better take the Scooby just in case they opened it up....

I got taken out in a Mk1 Focus WRC a few years back by a mate who owns a rally company. It was actually one of Colin McRae's old WRC cars.

We popped out on the roads in it for a quick blast. Jesus christ that thing was out of this world!! The noise was unreal also - he didn't even start it up until we had the intercom on. Around 300bhp, but apparently also 500ft/lbs due to the restrictor on the turbo.

The suspension was also incredible. It had just done a forest rally, so the suspension was high and set up as such. Even then, it handled amazingly well - again, better than any road car I've been in. What it must've been like in tarmac spec makes the mind boggle!

Most amazing passenger ride ever! All road cars seem rather tame after being in that.

Awesome Scoob by the way :)   Oulton is a lovely place!

I suppose it makes you understand how crap road cars are in comparison, where no compromises are even entertained :)

not really it would quickly get very tiresome using a rally car for day to day transport.

It would be insane to even suggest such a car could be daily commute, unless of course you are a masochist - you must have misunderstood...

I use my vRS for track days. Compared with this rally car in tarmac setup, this what highlights the "crapiness" or the amount of compromise introduced between performance/handling and comfort.
