Rear Shocks and springs Help please.

Recommended Posts

Hello to all,

I wonder if anyone can help me with my rear shocks on a 1996 1.3 pickup?

I have removed the rear shocks as I have new ones to fit, no problems there.  I am trying to remove the nut that sits ontop of the tube spacer and large round washer/ plate that the lower rubber mount sits on.

I have tried heating the nut, but it does not want to move.  I only have the little flat bit at the top of the shocker to grip with and this is not enough to get a good hold for me to undo this nut.

I do not want the damage the shocker inorder to remove this nut just incase I need to put it back together again, am I missing something with regards as to how to seperate these bits inorder to put them on the new shock?  Is there any one who can make a sugestion please.

Also do I have to compress the rear springs to get them out, as I have new springs to fit also?

Many thanks for any help.

Many thanks for reply, I have changed the springs ok.  I have taken the top nut off the shock, it is the second nut which is below the top rubber mount, where the lower rubber mount sits on top of it and has a tube and round plate.

cut the nut    follow the thread down   with a hacksaw   its cheaper  to replace   the nut    .soon as you undo shocks on Bothe sides the  springs will fall out as it allows it to drop more   ive replaced mine  recently  shocks and springs
