Electric Window Fault...

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I have a current intermittent fault with the front electric windows on my car.

Fabia mk 2 level 2, 1.4 tdi 59 plate 40,000 miles. Front electric windows only (rears are manual winders)

The fault first started a few days ago. One moment the windows were fine, however now they fail to operate every now and then.

Initially they failed to go up, forcing me to leave the car parked while they were left open. Not ideal! I have since managed to get them to go up.

I have searched other threads and found 'estate man's' advice. I sprayed the rubber guides with silicone spray and followed the reset procedure (lowering all the way and pressing the button till the motor clicks, then all the way back up etc). However the fault has since returned.

At the moment the windows are closed and fail to go down. Sometimes the passenger one works (by operating the switch on the passenger door) but wont operate from the drivers switch. I initially thought it may be a faulty drivers switch, however sometimes the passenger window fails to operate with the passenger door switch also.

Any ideas? Is the passenger door switch linked to the drivers door switch? Im thinking there is a loose wire somewhere? Anyone have a guide for removing the door cards? And what tools will I need?

Possibly broken wires at the door hinge in the rubber bellows. I had this on my 59 plate Fabia at about 18 months old, it was intermittent and also took out the adjustable mirrors at the same time. I would look there first before taking the doors apart.

Thanks for the reply.

I will have a look after work.

If it is that, is it a new wire required or can it be repaired? Looks like it may be a trip to the garage as I havnt a clue where the wire runs to

the rubber cable protection in the door hinge is all on a plug and socket conviniently :P, so any problems you can simply unplug it and get a new length with 2x connectors i would assume :P
