Scratched glass (WindowScreen)

Featured Replies

Well i picked up my car on Wed 24th Sep and since after driving it noticed a few scratches in the window screen now before i picked the car up i told them i wanted the window screen either replacing or repairing as it had a chip in it.. I think the guy who *repaired the chip scratched the window screen when cleaning it off after he finished filling the chip) two questions here really..

Can scratches be removed....

and now its been repaired should you still be able to feel the chip (as in a defect on the glass) as when i was cleaning it a bit of my glass cleaning cloth stuck to where the chip was (even tho its supposedly has been repaired)

Now i personally wanted it replacing but the dealership used a external windscreen man and he supposedly decided on repairing it instead of replacing it.... I live 100+ miles away from the dealership thats why i wanted it replacing because if i have any problems with it then it has to go back... they said its guaranteed for 12 months what should i do?

Very hard to fully polish out a glass scratch, as aggressive machine polishing with a compound can result in a "lensing" effect on the area worked on. However, you can certainly dull down the visibility of the scratch with some good hand polishing. I recommend you get Ceriglass from CarPro. They do a good pack (not at all expensive) that includes the Ceriglass compound, hand applicators and buffing cloths.

If the Tint is Chipped or scratched then it will not get polished out,

and the tint is chipped or scratched.

I have glass polishing gear as part of my detailing stuff.  I have used it successfully to remove scratches left from an old tired wiper blade (or lack of blade I suspect) on my Dad's missus' car.  I also use it as a basic polish to totally refresh a screen before applying the windscreen rain repellent I offer out. :)

I personally think that the screen should have been replaced i will take a picture of the chip tomorrow.

The way i look at it is the screen should have been replaced because it was out of its MOT but has just had a fresh MOT done but it was done *in house* if you like because the dealership does its own MOT's , so i think they over looked it having the chipped windscreen and shoddy repair so it passed..?

It depends on where the chip is and size for the MOT.

I had this situation years ago with a Lexus. In the end I put a new screen in and the dealer paie my excess.
