Octavia 2004 "1U" model, 1.9TDi does 'hiccups'

Featured Replies

Hi everyone; can any of you help me to understand why my Octavia "1U" model 1.9TDi does 'hiccups' occasionally.  It happens intermittently but when it does, it is when accellerating.  Apart from this problem, my Octavia runs really sweetly and economically.

It has done 191,000km (about 108,000 miles)

Appreciate suggestions that will lead me to remedy the problem before it gets worse.

Cheers.

I had something that I described as occasional y hiccups on my Mk2 Octavia. A change of fuel filter seemed to sort it until the filter got dirty again.

As Mike says, try asking in the Mk1 forum as there will be a more relevant and more likely response there.

Thanks, both of you, Mike and Freedom. I'll have a go.  The fuel filter was (supposedly during the Grand Service) changed some 40,000km ago.  I try to always tank at reputable brand service stations, but admittingly it doesn't always work out like that. I suppose it is easy enough to pick up some dirt along with the fuel, is it not?

Btw - whereabouts under the bonnet is the fuel filter located?

Not certain on a Mk1, but probably over to the left by the front bumper (it is in a Mk2 so forgive me if I'm wrong).
