Shark fin/ bee sting aerial advice

Featured Replies

I'm after changing my standard aerial to one of the above. Preferably a shark fin but I haven't got a clue where to find one that will be and easy fit and still have good reception so I don't lose any radio stations?

I've got a bee sting and have list no reception.

OEM GPS Antenna (with Sharan stubby mast) by lotus-gt, on Flickr

OEM fin on mine, fitted with a sharan stubby.  No loss of reception.  Don't buy a cheap mast off ebay as they are crap - go OEM or parts4euro also sell them.  The fin is just for show though, although i retrofitted a columbus i put a hockey puck type gps under the dash, so that fin doesn't do anything other than look cool :)

Was it just a case of pulling the headliner down at the back and swapping them over?

Where did you buy the parts?

the fin is OEM, second hand off the mk5gti forum.  stubby from http://www.parts4euro.com/

yes, its just a case of pulling down the headlining and you can easily get to the nut to swap them over.  the fin has connector for gps and the radio anntenna - just plugs in to your existing cable.

yes.

as you can see in the pic, there are two wires, one is the gps, the other is the radio - just swap with your existing aerial.

What's the prices on 1 of them rob ? If I got to vw and quote that part number that will be that airel won't it ?

You could do away with the roof mounted antenna completely and use these to put the aerial on the rear side windows.

Then put the GPS & GSM (if you have them) in a shark fin on the roof.

That's what I had and not only did I get two aerials (pre-FL only has one out of the factory), but I also got better radio reception and much stronger / more reliable GPS reception.
