Just got back home after a fraught drive in the pouring rain, with indicators which suddenly have a mind of their own. It started when I indicated right, and the indicator obeyed for a second, then decided that it would indicate left (even with the stalk in the up position). This happened a second time, followed by the indicators stopping.

So, I parked up and got the missus to check them, and they were doing all sorts of things - starting indicating the correct way, then the opposite way, then stopping. Then when I returned the indicator stalk to the off position, the left indicator flashed for a while then stopped.

I decided then that it was best to proceed home without indicating.

So, has anyone had this happen before, and is it the indicator stalk, a faulty relay or some other?

If it is the stalk, is it an easy replacement, and would I be best off getting one from a breakers yard?

The funny thing about this is, that I was going to post a thread yesterday, saying how I had done 40K miles in the Octavia without any real problems - that will teach me.

Cheers Mike, I will have a look at this. The MOT is coming up in a months time, so may take it around to my mechanic for a once over, as he has the diagnostic kit and is quite reasonable about looking for faults.
